I've finished Mass Effect it was quite enjoyable, just started Stalker Call of Pripyat and I'm loving it,more than Mass Effect Actually the Combat is just great and weapons, upgrades and money system is sweet.

Really makes you want to work to get that next gun or upgrade,I've really missed this kind of game.

Its an absolute machine hog,I keep it on DX10 instead of DX11 to keep the FPS above 60fps,time to buy another 480GTX.:-D

Really? I dont have a problem with my 4850. (Me 1 that is, Me 2 i have to play on medium settings lol)

Bought Minecraft(was up the day after i posted about the DDoS attack) and god is it addictive. Got 1 floor of my castle built, a basement built, my torture chamber(just a big room with a few torches really lol), my glass bridge built and a place where im gonna start planting trees.

Well that's everything up max including advanced options,X4AA,16AF,everything set to quality in video card options at 1080X1650.

I don't have a problem the FPS stay above 60 most of the time rarely going below.I also have Vsync enabled, most people don't mind the frame rate going below 60 FPS but to me thats unplayable :-D Gives me a headache.

What resolution you at?The game is also optimised for ATI cards.

  8. blatherbeard

My res is 1440X900(nice big monitor but this is my highest res unfortunately)

I can actually play at 25fps probably cause im used to crappy *** frame rates LOL

This is really my first "gaming machine" that can actually come close to being state of the art............for a few years ago ;)

Im pretty much always at the high mid or high low end range of the gaming spectrum. (cash flow usually sucks)But this card was one of those, right time-right price cards that just seems to overperform compared to other cards in its class.

Although im usually at high or very high settings, i never use Vsynch(or Vsuck as i call it as it usually just sucks up power and doesnt help me at all LOL) and my AA is usually set to off.

I dont think ive ever been cutting edge enough to actually be able to use AA ;)

  9. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

LOL I can't play with Vsync off,the screen tearing drives me nuts.

  10. Mimsy

Especially after a few mods have been applied... though blatherbeard is right, it does hog resources.

  11. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

Well it doesn't hog any resources actually but its must be used at the right time or it can limit your FPS to 38, just because of how it works.

The right time to use it is when you can run above 60fps or/and the game your playing has full support for triple buffering or enhanced vsync.

For more info on when and where to use Vsync and how it works I found this Post informative.

ANY time i have ever tried to use Vsynch, even in a game i have over 100fps, it never does anything but slow the game down for me that ive noticed. Ive only experienced tearing in games that my pc overheats playing, and that hasnt happened in about 5 years on a really s...l....o...w..... machine lol

  14. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

I have an eye for detail,on any game without vsync enabled when a spin round the screen vertical lines tear for instance on the side of buildings.

I think its due to my mouse being so sensitive,I have a 2000DPI Razor mouse, set to maximum in Windows and something like two thirds in game.

I can do a full 360 spin by moving the mouse less than 1/4 inch.

  15. blatherbeard

    blatherbeard Specialist

Yeah, i cant have my mouse that fast, i miss things. I need to feel like im really turning around so i usually have my mouse, which is just a basic optical, set around medium. Ill have to keep a lookout for tearing in my games now that youve got me wondering ;)

  16. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

Just set your mouse to max and spin round:-D I have to have it set like this I play all games on the hardest difficulty usually with a difficulty mod installed and I consider quick save cheating,I'm one of those online A-holes who's too good and takes the fun out of the game.

I'm ready for a new mouse now this one just isn't sensitive enough for me anymore.

EDIT can't you just smell the EGO wafting around here?

Still working my way through Dragon Age Awakening. The darkspawn have evolved into a nastier version of darkspawn now. And they have dragons.

Seriously. They have pet dragons that they sick on me and my new friends. I am quite upset with them. :boxing

I went to friends house and he was showing me the new lego game plus wanted me to look at his server he made. And each time I go over to his place the mouse has to be at some sort of high sensitivity, cause when I move very little its already off the screen. Now when you watch him play hes use to it and looks great but me on it looks like a noob tring to move mouse a little at a time:-D

ROFLMAO Hey, if you can do it, FLAUNT IT! For me if its too fast to see the scenery its no fun. then again, i dont play online fps because of this same reason LOL

I've only done the Dalish Rogue origin and human mage origin so far... but may go back to play the dwarf ones before DA2 comes out. I like how the race and class you are actually makes a difference in how people treat you. :)

  23. Martien

    Martien Private E-2

That is one of the best things of the game.
Its fun too see that you really make some more efford with some races then others.

Just finished Operation flashpoint Dragon Rising,Hmmm where to begin?I'm not having much luck with games lately I feel totally conned:(Good job I didn't pay anywhere near release price.

Its not operation flashpoint 2,upon doing a little research it seems Codemasters gave up on the game half way through but released it anyway.rolleyes They have basically lied in all the press releases with regard to the games content,it has nothing that flashpoint had,Codemasters has dumbed the game down to a run one way first person shooter.

Here's a few although I don't know where to start the game is so dire;you can't drive any vehicles other than a humvee,it handles like its on ice,you can't select your weapons before a mission, you can't control your squad, your squad is never bigger than 4 men,you cannot explore the map without failing the mission, enemy AI can't shoot, friendly AI is dumber than spit and get stuck on tree's,there's so many more its just a joke, nnoo flying,no tanks, about 5 weapons,no story, broken multiplayer.

There were about 10 missions all on foot, all pretty much the same.I finished the game in 5.30 hours, the credits rolled just as I thought the vehicle missions were about start or the game would throw in a just a little diversity. And to rub salt into the wound codemasters had the gall to display the game designers pictures with the credits.

I'm not sure where to go from here with Codemasters I feel like a lifetime of trust has just evaporated away.

Anyway got Mass effect 2 on stand bye but I'm now thinking about getting a copy of Fallout 3,or maybe 2 dunno, its been on my list for a while and Neds thread has wetted my appetite.:)

    Sorry for the rant...

EDIT think I want ARMA or Crysis for Christmas.

Just started a 14 day trial of Vanguard, which i was a beta tester for back when i had a much crappier pc and the game had much crappier code.

I have to say, that the community is pretty darn helpful and they seem very cheerful to have a new player since its a game that was almost abandoned by early players and its own game company.

Sony bought it from the original company and tweaked it a bit. Seems much more stable than it was at launch, the graphics are just short of amazing, the gameplay is slower than most MMO fights which i actually like, havent gotten into crafting yet but ive been told its pretty detailed, and they have some kind of diplomacy option of the game that i havent tried yet either. Seems like a pretty in depth game.

Dont know if its worth 15 bucks a month, but ill for sure play out the whole 14 day trial.(if anyone tries this game, input the command /setfog 11111, it gets rid of game fog and man OH man is the game so much better looking. You can see for miles and its quite amazing.)

Hugh: Glad someone can play Crysis, i got it to run up to the endgame and it wont play through the final battle. Such a great idea, such idiotic coding. so sad.

@Rikky.... You didn't like it? man I loved that game.
Just a few points I think need clarifying from your post.

You can use other vehicles.... well, a helicopter and tank., just not very often.
You can control your squad, it's just the AI isn't too sharp and they only do what you want about 50% of the time.
The only thing I thought the game lacked was the inability to choose your weapon loadout before each mission.
It is shortish, although by todays standards it's a marathon (MOH on hardest took me a little over 5 hours.)

To each their own though, it has some issues but I liked it.

As for Arma... if you didn't like Op Flash then Arma will probably annoy the hell out of you.... IF you can keep it running at more than 15FPS, AI is just as bad if not worse, missions are just as bland if not more so and I got halfway through it and got annoyed because it was almost impossible to hit your target, clunky controls as well, too many options to fiddle with, nice idea, just once again I don't think they pulled it off.

Crysis is a great game but little more than a straight up FPS with a special suit, if you're looking for realism.... this ain't it..... if you want to sneak around , grab a bad guy and pummel him into a truck parked 100 feet away...... this is your game.

Onto Fallout 3.... man worth every penny, possibly the biggest game you will ever play, the story is much stronger than New Vegas but is a very very very small part of the game, I've got maybe 85 hours into Fallout 3 and only finished the main quest the day before New Vegas release lol.
I would say get Fallout 3 before New Vegas, although NV has many little tweaks that are very nice, F3 just seemed to have more atmosphere, equally great games, equally uber huge.
I'm now 37 hours into NV, done about half the main quest and am loving it.
The beauty of the Fallout Games is you can be who you want......I like being the hero guy, always being talked about on the radio and people love me.... but hey, if you want to shoot some inocent civilian in the face and watch the special VATS cam as their head explodes off their body as it drops to the ground like a sack of shit just to steal a handfull of empty tin cans........ go for it :strong
Or you can play it hero like until someone says something nasty about your mother..... then you pin his head to the wall with the Railway gun :strong
Too many ways to play the game to ever really "Complete" it
Both Fallout 3 and New Vegas rank in my top 15 games of all time.

Of course this is all just my opinion :)

  33. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Oh yeah, one other thing about Arma 2, whatever happens, whatever you do.....do not.... I repeat DO NOT.... jump off anything more than 4 feet off the ground, you will break your legs and the medic will stand there and watch you bleed to death........ lol I just fired it up to have a play and 4 minutes in I'm dead because I dropped down off a ledge about 8 feet up, broke my legs and now the medic is standing over me saying "you'll be ok, you'll be ok".... as I bleed to death and the screen goes black.... nice.

Sounds like we play similar ways for FAllout 3 there ned. ;)

I concur with ned btw about Fallout 3, and i still havent finished the main storyline.

Someone told me that FA3 has like 200 square miles of area and 100 quests, NV has 400 square miles of area and 143 quests.

Thats alot of exploration and questing.

    Great games for sure.

Well I've unlocked the Map Marker perk (shows all available places to discover) , I've currently discovered 82 places and just looking at the map I'd say I'm maybe just over half way to discovering all.
Not sure about F3 since I didn't do this test, I worked it out in F:NV that one map square takes 2ish minutes to walk if walking on flat ground in a straight line, the map is 20x20..... lol, so IF it were possible to walk a flat, straight line across it would take you 40 minutes., I don't need to do the math for you lol, lets just say thank god for the fast travel (only available after you discover a location), although I will say there seems to be a lot more walking around inside locations in F:NV than in F3.

Oh well, just finished installing COD Black Ops, acording to the min sys req's it needs an Intel C2 Duo E6600 or and AMD x3 8750, now I only have an X2 6000+ but I'm hoping the specs are right and that mine is actually more powerful lol.
I'm thinking it's for the online Zombie mode, I can't see why this COD would need that much CPU, the only real difference between this and MW's is a graphic tweak and Zombie mode....... well, assumptions time is over, lets go find out :strong

  36. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

First I love operation flashpoint it's up there with my greatest games of all time I've finished the main game 3-4 times,I've played practically every good user generated level or mod created. If your gonna be finnicky agreed you can use other vehicles I think you can use a helicopter twice and a tank once I believe,I never found the tank but I found two helicopters, one on the first level and the other I had to shoot down myself and then fix:-D

By not controlling your squad I mean you have no where near the options of flashpoint as the control system is simplified due to it being a console port from the 360,attack,defend yada yada

I played with the 1.2 patch the latest to date and 3-4 missions became un winnable due to friendly AI screwing up,not my own squad, the friendly forces would go an get ice cream in the middle of a battle and my position would become swamped with enemy. This is one of the main problems, unless you play each level exactly as they wanted it to be played you can't win.In flashpoint sometimes I'd blow up all my squad at the start sneak intoa Russian base, take a chopper and lay waste to half of Malden:-DJust for kicks...

5.30 hours a marathon?I consider COD modern warfare short and that took about 10 hours.

Hey atnguyen , welcome to MG's, post good, follow the rules and join in and you'll most likely find this one of if not THE best forum on the net in so so many ways :)

@lego... I loved ME2, was a little short all round, I was quite dissapointed really although I don't have the exp's, I plan on grabbing them some time, but the game was freakin' phenominal, I just wished it had been more, I did most stuff and just wanted more...... but then started playing something else lol

As for Dragon Age 2, man I really must reinstall it, you guys go on and on about how awesome it is, it just didn't grip me when I played it, it was good yes, but it didn't jump out, grab me by me whatsits and rattle me around like other games have, dunno, maybe I should look into it again.

    Currently playing a mixture...

COD Black ops (when it works lol)
    Fallout New Vegas
    Fallout 3
Just Cause 2 (which I just finished the story and am 59% complete lol, 60 some hours in)
Arma 2 (after a brief conversation with Rikky, thought I'd try it again, still buggy but I aproached the gameplay from a different angle and am enjoying it more)
Sherlock Holmes vs Jack The Ripper (great fun)
And lastly and probably least lol... Mystery Case Files Dire Grove, lots of fun, holy upgrade Batman!

Thats about it really at the moment :-D

I'm still with the old favourites, Ghost Recon series with Brettzies weapons packs, the Call of Duty series and the conflict series (except Denied Ops-what was that all about?).
I also got Arma 2 but I don't yet know how to play it, I can't even control the bots or weapons properly and consequently haven't yet got out of training. Do I need encouragement or a waste bin?

Encouragement I think, it's pretty deep but if you can get the basics down then you will start understanding the rest, you have to play it as a simulator, not a first person shooter.

It's a long process but ultimately worth it, the game has bugs but is a sound concept and very well thought out, just has a few issues.

  44. cozzielex

I forgot you can adjust difficulty mid game, thanks.

  46. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Well Arma 2 is a Military Simulator, meaning everything is as realistic as can possibly be in a video game, some examples:

You get shot in the leg and can no longer move very well
You're not going to just simply pull off 300 yard headshots, you must take wind and gravity into consideration.
You don't have a little map telling you where all the enemies are.
If you charge in guns blazing you WILL get demolished.

A FPS such as Medal of Honor or Call Of Duty are arcade games in a realistic setting, you regenerate health, can take multiple shots to centre mass without dying, you can throw a grenade impossible distances.
    Everything is marked for you.

Think about it like this, I'll give you a little list starting with arcade shooters and getting more realistic....

    Doom
    Halo
    FEAR
    Battlefield
    Call Of Duty
    Socom
    Operation Flashpoint
    Arma 2

Think of it as the difference between an arcade flight, dogfighting game such as Battlestations and then to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The options and controls take hours to learn in Arma 2, no one is just going to pick it up and start shooting enemies and finish it in 5 hours flat on hard.
You must travel yourself and improvise when things go wrong.

Basically it's as close to real war you can get to in a video game.

  47. Rikky

Rikky Wile E. Coyote - One of a kind

You can't run and gun,you have to make a plan then execute it,well that's in operation flashpoint anyway but I believe gameplay is the same, they are both by bohemia interactive.

Get your binoculars out a lot and scan the horizon, see what forces you'll be coming up against, for example if you see a platoon of soldiers ahead and they have an armoured assault vehicle that would be your first priority, get your anti take weapon out or order your squad to engage it then take on the soldiers.

The control of your squad is just something you have to pick up slowly,at first it seems cumbersome and slow but after a few executions you start rattling through the combinations that execute the commands you want.

Probably the most important thing to do at the start of each mission is to take note of the resources you have at your disposal,if you know of a helicopter or tank that unguarded you could choose to make that your priority and strategise around it and probably above all you must make sure you are never outnumbered or out gunned, always try to tip the odds in your favour.

In FPS you are always outnumbered and outgunned,in military simulators you must avoid those situations like the plague.

@Ned one of the things I love doing in flashpoint point was using a cheat or trainer for infinite ammo,I'd then play missions using on the under slung grenade launcher :-D

@Rikky... Yes Op Flashpoint and Arma 2 are very similar, but honestly, by comparison Arma 2 is much harder and much more realistic, it stepped up another level of realism past Op Flashpoint.
I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not, personally I preffered Op Flash but I'm getting into Arma, I will say Arma has many more controls and squad options and in general is much harder because you have less information to work with.

As for Op Flash, I like making a mission in the editor and placing 2 or 3 dozen soldiers in an encampment with some sand bags and small bildings scattered, then placing myself alone on the top of the dorment volcano (I think thats what it is) and Sniping them, if memory serves the binocs will target upto 1400metres, so I worked it out on the map to place me on the ridge and the camp approx 1.8km away.

It's awesome, you scope out which target to take first , always the furthest....
figure out how far he is.....
    take note of angle ....
Put away the binoculars and pull out the monster .50cal (not the same semi auto 70lb 50.cal from COD4, the M92 bolt action)....
Scope in.... set you lines...... take your time....wait for your moment......
..you pull the trigger... a thunderous shot rings out, then silence...
...2 or maybe 3 seconds later you see your target drop.
    Nice :cool

Sweet!:-D Another cool thing with flashpoint it has a realisticish explosion model, the more explosive you put down the larger the explosion, that's what the infinite ammo trainers are great for.

    I have a save game in which I've placed 240 C4 sachels,over a 1000lbs of explosive:-D Took me ages to place them,

    LULZ

If I can find it and you want it I could email the save game to you...
