You've got to be kidding Ned! :wave

When riding your British trains in 1974 from Southend to London and back, it didn't even have corridors and no loo. :cry One was stuck in the compartment, nowhere to go, therefore no food or drink available. One was stuck with any passenger who got in or was there already. The rides (in the evening) reminded me of Hitchcock movies with those macabre barely lit train stations. :-D

Hope that the Brits have updated their trains since then. :-D

GO trains are really doubledecker commuter trains to serve the burbs/cities around Toronto, so one cannot really compare them to our national trains, especially the ones geared to tourism.

Why do we still have trains?A fully loaded passenger train uses more energy/fuel per person than an average car with just a driver.:confused

They also burn the leaves off with a laser train on UK lines.

Does Canada have a laser train? I don't freakin think so.!!!

Because they cut down on road congestion, I would think.

We live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and I used to work in the city. I took the train into work. I'm not sure how anyone can deal with the Expressway traffic every day going into Philly. It's bumper to bumper and a 35 mile drive takes about 1 1/2 hours.

Otherwise, I know nothing about trains. Particularly ones in different countries.

That was my point Augie, by "Nearly as Good" I was being sarcastic and actually meaning "Nearly as Bad", I remember this happneing very clearly and the many many jokes about it for many many years after.
Hell even now if someone asks why the train is late , someone will say "Probably leaves on the track" :-D

I do find it surprising this happened in Canada since the massess of snow every year doesn't seem to bother the trains lol
