I'm attempting to help a friend who's having issues with her laptop. Initially it basically cycled threw the dell start up screen, right into the windows startup and back again on a continuous loop.

I ran the repair option through her xp cd, ran chkdsk in recovery console and now I get the following errors in the blue screen on startup.

    Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xF78A91C, 0xF78A9C1C)

Trying to boot into safe mode gives me a completely different error.

\??\C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG10\avglogx.dll is not a valid windows image.

I pulled out the drive and was goint to check it in a 2.5 in enclosure I have and noticed it's a SATA drive. So I'm basically stuck.

Boot with your windows OS repair disk,
select the option to get to a command prompt,
find the avg directory where it was installed, probably (C:\program files\avg*)
rename the directory so that it doesn't load on boot,
    restart.

My Mum has phoned with the same error message; I have been unable to get her to boot in Safe Mode; the error message appears and unable to get past it with the XP disk.
I have emailed AVG support as Dad paid for this update - even though it is referred to as AVG10 in the error it seems that AVG2011 is the latest version update. Would be interested if anyone has managed to resolve this issue yet; especially having to offer Parental support via the phone! Thanks folks

    Hi

I would await AVG supports information as you have paid for the support, but a small pre-empt maybe the info in this post HERE (AVG rescue CD which needs to be burned to CD then booted too)

or you may have been caught up in this update issue, thats affeecting some Windows users HERE

I'm a big fan of the "who crashed me" software, which you can find on their website: http://www.resplendence.com/download/ -- might help you narrow down the exact issue

added note: now that I actually re-read your post, I see you can't get into windows. I would try renaming the AVG directory like the poster before me mentioned if that doesn't work then I would follow through with what DavidGP suggested as well

Thanks folks - I will await response from AVG (if there is one) and possibly check out burning that AVG resuce CD. If I get a workable answer I will post it. cheers
