About Fonts ?

When I was looking in the control panel I opened the Fonts folder. It has about 170 different fonts. Since I haven't changed any of the fonts of any program or my email fonts, can I delete the folder. Or would that mess up the computer? What if I chose some to delete? I have plenty of free space, so it's no big thing if I can't, or shouldn't. Just like to "clean" out stuff that 's not used. I have XP, SP3, IE8. Thanks

 

Why "clean" things that are not used, if you have enough free space? They don't do anything; they don't make your system run slower.

It's another thing to uninstall programs that are not used; these may actually do things that may slow your system down.

But fonts - I think it's a good thing to have many fonts :cool

One thing to consider is browsing the web.

If you delete those fonts and you go to a web page where a designer has
specified one of those fonts at certain places on those page(s), then you won't
see what the designer intended.

The browser should automatically use a substitute so nothing will 'break' if the font is not there.

 

Back in the Win 98 days I had Norton Utilities & Clean Sweep, I think it was called. So it would tell you files that weren't used and safe for removal. It lied, I let it clean the system and my fonts we all snafu. I remember hearing that loading fonts on Win 98 at boot slowed the system down, never heard that about XP, but I still don't install fonts all willy nilly. So leave the fonts alone, better safe than reloading your system.
