I have been looking to resolve this issue, I have seen some posts at this forum too but I wasnt able to post on those forums so that's why making a new post.

I have a service installed named rpcnetp, when I right click it and try to check it properties it says that "The system cannot find the file specified". But the file is present in the 'c:\windows\system32" folder. When I check the properties of the file it gives me no information about its publisher or anything. Now the most important thing is that if I delete this file and remove the service using regedit, it comes back the same day sometimes, and sometimes it comes back teh next day when i start my laptop, the file and service are back. The entry in registry of teh service "rpcnetp" is blank.

I have got Avira Anti Virus, Microsoft Security Essentials installed and I scanned everything with both. Nothing found, I have installed and run AVG, IOBit Security 360, but none of them gives me any signs of any virus or trojan or anything like this installed in my laptop. If this rpcnetp was a system file, it should have had microsoft as its publisher.

At some forums I read that it comes with the absolute software package along with another file rpcnet.exe. I had that file in my system too and also had that as a service. I removed that service, removed the absolute software folder, deleted rpcnet.exe file and it has not since come back. Also when i checked teh proeprties of rpcnet.exe it said that is by absolute software. But this rpcnetp.exe, it keeps coming back and it doesnt say anything when i check its properties. So if its a legit file, its properties should be telling something.

So to all of you out there, help me out. I have attached the zip file that includes two files, rpcnetp.exe and rpcnetp.dll, if anyone wants to examine the file. And do so at your own risk as I so far have no idea what this rpcnetp is doing but I know there are people expert enough to check the file without getting harmed :)

That's the post from where I started and tried to post on that one but didn't have rights. Comment by RobertR said that the file is by Absolute Software. I also found rpcnet.exe and the absolute service in my window services. I removed that file and service and since then it has not come back. the rpcnet.exe when I checked its properties it showed that its by Absolute Software. Ok I agree with so many people as they are saying that rpcnetp.exe is not a harmful file and so far no antivirus that i tried has detected it as malicious. I have checked the files rpcnetp.exe and rpcnetp.dll online with "http://virusscan.jotti.org/en" and "http://www.virustotal.com/" none said anything malicious about both files. So if its a legit file why there is no info in its properties.

I have attached the screenshot of the properties of the file

IMHO, you said you were looking to resolve an issue. Only issue (lol) I have with that is I don't think you have an issue :) Why no info? Maybe its an older file, maybe they didnt bother. I literally see files all day long without properties. Really pisses me off when I want to verify a version number.

If it was me, I would forget about it.
