If I'd just got that much money at auction I don't think I could enjoy it,I'd be too worried something was gonna happen that would stop me getting the money.

That vase is absolutely hideous. Obviously it's not valued for it's beauty and aesthetic appeal.

 

I don't really think its a wise investment either,whoever bought it just made $43M incredibly fragile.

 

If a museum bought it that would be a valid investment. That particular piece comes from a time period with little surviving artifactual data. A piece of pottery like that, in a pristine preserved state such as it is, offers a lot of data about the time period in which it was fired. It's historically extremely relevant if not aesthetically appealing by current standards of beauty.

 

For $43M you could build a time machine,go back in time,pick up a full crockery set,fight Biff and have change left over.

According to the article it was purchased by a private buyer, from mainland China. Taking their past back, I guess.

 

Possibly. Chinese are pretty hardcore about hanging on to their past even if their government is NOT.
