    Hello folks:)

    Before I go on I'd like you to know that I am a novice to software and computers and in general-so won't understand too much technical jargon:(

    Ok well here goes...

    For some friggin reason I cannot download any anti-virus or IS system. Ok I managed to download comodo but before I did I tried:
    1) Kaspersky 2010: Managed to download and install it onto computer but could not access it, everytime I clicked onto kaspersky nothing happened.

    2) Avast-managed to start download process but could not install it onto my computer-for after about literally 10 seconds of trying to install it, it stopped, then I tried to click to install it again but it wouldn't even start-in the end I could not even click to start the installation process.
    I deleted avast from my system and downloaded two more times-still the same problem.

    3) AVG: Managed to download but managed a little further than avast but would not install onto my computer. I deleted AVG and tried 2 more times but could got nowhere.

    4) Comodo-was the only IS that I could download, install and get to work. Problem with comodo was that I could not update it, I tried but it failed to download, tried another 4-5 times but it failed. Gave it a rest and have been trying for about 10 days to update it but nothing, so I decided to try avira again but this time I managed to download it twice but when I tried to install it onto my computer it disappeared and was nowhere to be found-it downloaded into my downloads folder and suddenly disappeared from the computer yet turned up in comodo. I tried to click it again under the firefox downloads but could not even click on it, could not even open it and suddenly it disappeared.

    Anyway I have deleted comodo and decided to re-install it again but cannot click to install it-did this because of the failure to update and copied it onto a usb stick but for some reason it does not seem to want to work.

    Ok there might be some issue with my computer but I did do a full scan with both malwarebytes and comodo and they detected win32 sality. I read somewhere about using an AVG component (is that the right word?) to delete the win32 sality and it did the trick.

    I am careful on the internet and I use w.o.t, no script, ghostery, ad-block plus, flagfox and also got bit defender. If the website is a bit weird I avoid it and always keep to well-known sites with a good reputation so flip knows if it is a security issue.

    Sorry for the rant guys but this is really friggin annoying-seriously what the hell is going on here?

    Also the c cleaner that I installed on my computer isn't working and I checked and it says that there is nothing wrong with it.
    I also tried to download open office and it failed-it told me that there was a failure.

    In case it helps I was told that I had win32 sality.og on my ralink wireless LAN:

    C:\Program Files\RALINK\RT2500 Wireless LAN Card\Installer\WINXP\RaConfig2500.exe --> Win32.Sality.OG
    --> C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\RaConfig2500.lnk
    --> Process RaConfig2500.exe (304)

    I used the AVG win sality32 remover and it managed to get rid of this virus...not sure if the above information will help but couldn't hurt to try;)

    If you haven't already, you might want to go to the Malware Forum and run their guide and post your logs there. The way your computer is acting it sounds as if the virus isn't entirely gone, and you'll want to make sure of that before you do anything else.

    If the guide isn't making sense to you, or if one of the steps isn't working, just make a thread in that forum and ask. The malware fighters are very busy, but they're also very nice and helpful, and frankly they're better at virus cleaning than a lot of paid "experts" I've come across. :)

    win32 sality is a very nasty bit of malware that often can not be cleaned effectively and requires a reformat and clean install. The fact that you are blocked from installing any AV software could be an indication that you are not really clean.

    I would seriously suggest that you consider backing up all your personal data and files and do a clean install of windows.

    Edit: Did you run this:
    Download and unpack the file http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/salitykiller.zip

    You just reminded me when you asked about kaspersky, for some reason I cannot get onto the kaspersky website and every time I do it says 'firefox cannot find server at kaspersky' this has happened every time I try getting onto kaspersky.com or kaspersky.co.uk
    I just tried the link and I got the above message I mentioned.

    Btw: what does a clean install entail? Do you mean I ought to go to an internet centre and ask them to install windows for me? I did that last month as I upgraded from windows 98 (I think) to windows XP and some of the files that the guy installed were suspicious-some of them came under the attack from sality32. In fact the guy at the internet center installed kaspersky-which I found to behave suspiciously as I mentioned earlier...I'm thinking that maybe he did something wrong, as before I left the store kaspersky was on and working (I checked to make sure) and I checked the internet connection (I didn't do any surfing I just plugged in my dongle just to see if it was working) which was also fine but when I got home kaspersky wouldn't work at all!

    The first thing you need to do is to have us check your system for malware. This can be done by following some long winded instructions that are really very simple to perform. Follow these instructions:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Then start a thread in the malware forum and attach the requested logs.

    The other alternative is for you to do a clean install. That would require you to have your xp cd. Do you have one? We can explain how to do that if necessary. ;)

    Click the blue wording "Read and Run" link they give you. Do what it ask and post the logs so the people in the malware section of forums can get to you and help you.

    Hey sorry I took years to reply.

    I finally managed to download (on a clean comp) and run the above mentioned program and it worked wonders. My registry is fine and there are no problems.
    Thank you very much TimW for your advice:)

    Kind Regards
    S.
