looking for add blocker for web surfing

hi. I am new to the forums but not so new to this site. I noticed there are a lot of great helpful hints and programs on here so I am hoping someone can help me on the problem that bothers me the most on the web. Adds on web pages.
is there a program available that removes adds from websites while surfing?

All the ads on my web pages are gone, video loading runs faster and smoother on youtube, and the only issue or bad result was myspace won't work.
I still give your suggestions and links 2 thumbs up

 

What is whitelist and how do you do it?

 

I 'assume' it means to go to Tools: ADBlock Plus Preferences;
scroll down to MajorGeeks (I found 2 items) and uncheck them. I just now did this, myself, so I hope I got it right.

 

I am using IE8 but when I click on Tools, I don't see ADBlock Plus Preferences. When I click on Manage Add-Ons I find ADBlock but there is no place to change settings.

Any other usggestions?

 

I'm not aware there is an Adblock Plus addon for IE or even available? :confused

I have Simple Adblock installed on IE 8. http://simple-adblock.com/ As you can see I've got its blue icon on the bottom. Right click that icon and select: disable Simple Adblock on.... (select the website)

Adblock Plus for FF etc works pretty much the same. Right click on the icon and select "Disable forums on MajorGeeks".

Anyway that's how I do the whitelisting.

Your pic doesn't look anything like what I have on my web pages. But, never mind, I didn't realize we were talking about Simple Ad Block which doesn't work on my computer.

I'll try something else.
