    Hi all
Since I went onto IE8 the drop down menu on the address bar does not work.
On previous IE's I used to click on the drop down arrow and select a well visited site from the list of past visited sites, now this function has been lost, can antbody inform me how to turn it back on?
    Regards Robert.

For your Address bar to work see if you can have "Address Bar" ticked in the AutoComplete Settings:

Go to Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete (Settings) and tick "Address Bar".

    Rusty ! ;)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

And, if that doesn't work, press F11.

    Hi Guys
Thanks for your help, I have followed your instructions Rusty and there was already a tick in the Address bar.
I am presuming that I will have to press F11 on boot up, what will that do?
    Regards Robert.

No, after the machine is up and running, and with a browser window open, press F11. On most computers, the key hides the browser taskbar - it may have been inadvertently pressed.

    Hi Cal
The task/address bar is in view, it's the menu of past addresses that I want, when I hover on the black arrow there is a message "Show address bar autocomplete" but when I click the arrow The drop down menu of past addresses is not shown.
Also I think on IE 6 when I wrote an address it tried to pre-empt me and auto fill, that function is now missing, so it does look like something is turned off, :confused, but what!!

    Hi SikVik
    Thanks for your input,
The Address Bar has a tick in it > Browsing History has not > Favourites has a tick > Forms has a tick > User Names has a tick > Ask Me has a tick.
Yet the durned Address bar will still not perform :cry I'm sure that it's something simple. but what!!
PS, Sorry guys I’m off on a long weekend this morning, so I can't respond until Monday, if in the meantime you think of anything else that might help I will be most grateful.
    Regards Robert.

Hi all, I'm back from my break.
The browsing History box also has a tick in it, but the visited sites menu still does not show.
When I hover on the black drop down arrow a yellow box appears with the words " Show Address bar Autocomplete" I wonder if that has anything to do with the problem, or can give a clue?

Thats normal. But you need to click on it to show/drop down *Browsing History.*
Internet Options-> general tab->Make sure "Delete browsing history on exit" is not checked/ticked.
Also from Internet Options-> general tab-> Browsing history-> click on "Settings." At the bottom, how many days is IE set to save web sites visited, in history? The default setting is 20 days.

Are you regularly using any maintenance tool like Ccleaner etc? As these by default delete your history.

    Cheers..

    Hi siKviK

Success!!!! :-D at last, and yes I have just checked again to see that the ticks are all in the right places and they are, so what I did last night was to click on > Tools > Internet Ops > Advanced > then I clicked > Restore Advanced Settings > Then > Reset IE settings to Default with the > Reset button, and then rebooted, and it worked, the lost functions came back, and I am very pleased.
My thanks to yourself and Caliban for your help and input, I don't know where we silver surfers would be without your help and experience.
I do have another small prob however as when in Word I want to change font colour click on blue and it shows as Red, and red shows as Blue I think a few others are twisted but not all.
What would be the best Forum for this problem?
    Best regards Robert.
