Pretty-looking patterns... how is the balance and edge though? ;) Nice touch with a tungsten handle too. :)

And yes, they tend to cost a fortune. The closest anyone today can come to the old-type Damascus steel is to pattern weld it, or forge in a crucible. Either technique takes a lot of time, materials, and most of all skill, to get right. If done right though, it looks amazing, and when all is said and done, I have always been a lot more concerned with the looks and functionality of my blades, than if they are historically accurate or not.

I just ordered tonight, will see how it is when I get it. I get a new pocketknife about every 15 years or so, my current one is technically illegal to carry, thus the smaller one here.

I did run across someone online that actually makes them himself. Folding knives run $300 and up. But one day, I want a Damascus dagger/tanto... ;):-D

I know very little about blades so I won't embarrass myself here amongst those that do. Todays Damascus steel as Mimsy said isn't a 'true Damascus' like was forged ages ago. On some welding forums when some members make blades they always are looking for 1" or larger stainless cable to hammer weld into Damascus. Here are two pics a gentleman has made, one of them is from a railroad spike which I think is really cool.

Nice looking blades there Buck! I know there are custom knife makers that put out some really nice stuff. Unfortunately, they are not in my price range. Yet. :-D

The spike knife looks awesome. But it also looks unwieldy, poorly balanced, and uncomfortable to hold....

I know, I'm hopeless. But they need to be usable! LOL

Lol, to me a blade is a steak knife to cut up my charred animal flesh. *hides* I am that way with tools. Just my empty snap on tool box cost more than some compact cars. Everyone has their own thing they are into.

Finally got it! I like this. Balance is good for a small pocket blade. I now have a knife with a safety... :-D The blade looks awesome! I really miss my old Fuji camera for closeup picts. The Nikon does OK, but nowhere near the old Fuji.

Fuji or Nikon, those does look good... very nice-looking blade! :)

Which reminds me, I need to get some decent photos of the ninja-to and of the Musashi katana and post here. They're both gorgeous.
