That's right..this is the consolidated place to post all Christmas related crap in. Talk about decorations? Remember old Christmas adverts? Post what you are doing for the holiday? Post it here.

As for myself, I have put up the lights on the outside of the house and they are all functioning fine and through one timer which is awesome!

Did all my shopping on Black Friday and got a buttload of stuff.

"Christmas" starts earlier and earlier every dang year. I was hoping we wouldn't be dealing with it on MG's this soon either!! Not a humbug, just not into the commercial aspects that the season has become. It is more and more a "season" for merchants to stay afloat then a time for family and good will. :(

yeha have to agree with the others motc7 - wouldn't want the christmas spirit to peek too early ;)
As of yet, no xmas decorations up, i doubt they'll go up til next weekend. :-D :-D :-D opened the first door of the advent calendar today (any excuse for extra chocolate really), and had christmas songs in the common room this morning. also, true sign of christmas: went home early because of the snow :)

No decorations will be up here for another couple of weeks. The music annoys me. I guess if people want to put up their lights, go for it, but please don't play the music for Thanksgiving. :mad

Love Christmas. Actually like the music and Carols. LOL
Guess being in India, one doesn't get deluged.
The one thing I dislike is Christmas cake...akk!

It's baked religiously every November. In huge quantities by my mum and sister. Served on Christmas and lasts forever. Apparently it ages well. Convoluted recipe, passed down by my British grandma. After being baked it's wrapped in a muslin cloth soaked in Rum and then foil. Thank god I don't live in that house.

Don't think even TimW likes Christmas cake:-D

    Cheer..

Only reason I knew it was December was because my Dad asked me to put the lights and tree up.

"Richard put the lights and tree up!"

    "Dad wait till December!"

    "It is December?"

Sneaky months...People will be telling me its 2011 next,I'll be like "Don't be stupid dude,I'd be like 31."

    I'm a cyber-shopper, so I'm almost done with presents.
I order, they ship and most of them offer free gift wrapping, so all that's left for me to do is pass them out. :-D

Done even earlier this year, due to being homebound.

Sorry :-o I did not explain fully.
We would have Christmas in the UK then down to Spain normally on 27 or 28 December for new year and come back the day before school began.

They would ride through the streets and throw sweets to all the kids.

I thought about that in all honesty, but those bulbs just aren't bright enough for me. I got good old fashioned C9 incandescent bulbs.

    Meh,

Bought a small string of 'em --- 10 lights on a string approx. 3 in. separation with a box for two AA batteries --- to put on my smallish tree with the normal lights. Stupid things burnt out in two days! $6 for 'em too! :mad

    :wave

I see nothing much has changed --- good to see I wasn't missed or anything...rolleyes

Just out of curiosity, how many of you actually buy a real tree? Probably should exclude those of you with youngsters. ;)

I just go outside and cut a nice 2 ft. sapling, put that in a large vase and put a few lights on there, quite spartan but it works for us.:)

  40. BILLMCC66

We used to have a real tree every year but my wife got sick of all the needles falling off (they say if you spray the tree with hair lacquer it stops them falling but i never tried that) so now it is imitation.

  41. augiedoggie

augiedoggie The Canadian Loon - LocoAugie (R.I.P. 2012)

It's easy for us, tree comes in about the 17th, and is gone by the new year. It's always hydrated with a drop of chlorine and some sugar. I never have had 'needle drop' though I remember my mum cursing at those needles when I was a kid! roflmao The things that kids remember.;)

Hmm, that could be a good thread.;) Someone?

I am not sure if this is true, but my source of liquor knowledge tells me that there is an interesting story behind the Crown XR. Supposedly, Crown needed to expand it's distillery. So, they bought one out. And they bottled the whiskey that was in the tanks, and named it XR, or Extra Rare I think.

If it is true, it is an excellent marketing job. The stuff is extra rare, as the original company can't duplicate it exactly, and rare due to a limited supply.

"In 2006, Crown Royal XR (Extra Rare) was introduced in the US by allocation and the Canadian market (initially, only in Ontario and Alberta). Available in Québec since January 2008. This limited-release special blend of Crown Royal is sold in numbered bottles, and is made from the last batch of whiskey distilled at the Waterloo distillery. After mothballing in 1992, the Waterloo distillery burned down in 1993, with only a small amount of whisky being left behind [11]. It received a 7¼ and 7¾ from Whisky Magazine critics [12]."

    From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Royal

Of course, as I am still at war with Canada, I don't drink their swill. A nice single malt Scotch, Irish whiskey or some good old American Jack Daniels for me! And yes, I keep the good single malt locked up!

Good value Whiskey if you can find it in your local stores is Buffalo Trace. I can't remember who makes it, but I think it is a second label from a good distiller. http://www.spiritsreview.com/reviews-bourbon-buffalo-trace.htm

    :-D

Oh, got my Xmass present early. Got a nice gas grill from the folks. Of course, now they keep calling me to ask when I am cooking for them... ;)

Here's a couple of links for Irish Whiskey.

I've tried the "normal" Jameson, the "12 years old" Jameson, and Jameson "Gold". I thought "Jameson Gold" was the top of the range, but check out Jameson 2007 Rarest Vintage Reserve at £245 a bottle. :-D :-D

For Irish Whiskey, if you can't afford Midleton or Redbreast, get the Tullamore dew. Good stuffs. ;)
