Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

We've been doing live trees for about 20 years now - our driveways are lined with the successful transplants.
I'm talking about real live trees, in the buckets - usually 4' or so Leyland Cypress, with a couple of white pines thrown in.

So they live past new years!? Awesome. ;)

Yep - have had pretty good success with them, especially the Leylands.

This pic shows a couple of Leylands, taken a couple of years ago - they're both a good bit larger now.

I am not a "green" person. But if you have several Xmass trees that are planted and living, that is awesome!

    You are FredStar certified! :-D

did you guys know you can rent a christmas tree?
found that out the other day :-D basically you pay the grower rent for the tree over xmas, take it home, decorate it how you want, then send it back when you've finished with it. sounds quite a cool idea, and because it comes in a pot, you shouldn't get the needles dropping off :cool

    Rent a tree... :-D:-D

I like that. A capitalist way to reduce waste, festive home decoration, and a person makes some $. I love economics. :cool

I agree,it would be even more capitalistic if people could then invest in the business and they could buy more tree's to rent out so everyone could have a tree at Christmas!Everyone want's a tree at Christmas so we could hire a third party company to show this and give the business a high stability rating so the banks could invest! Then the banks could start up the Christmas tree endowment investment scheme.

Unless people default? Then the Gov would have to subsidise the tree rental companies and bail out the high profile Christmas tree rental company endowment investors which would leave the Gov owning 10 million tree's no one could afford, the national debt would increase and still no one would have a tree.

:-D I hope you appreciate that Fred,it hurt my brain.

Bwahahahahahahaha Rikky, I think you just 'esplained' to Fred et al how the whole US economic system failed! Greedy sons of Bitches growing on the back of GWB's fed rate reduction back in 2K1. To the mods, I'll shut up now.:-D

Really? You all turned a Holiday thread political?

Come on guys. This stuff never ends well and leads to the death of a thread. I hate killing threads. It makes me sad. :p:-D

Get back to Christmas, Hanukkah, Fruitcake, Scotch, egg nog, champagne, and bah humbug. :p

As a gesture to the more or less worldwide season of giving, I will, even though I am at war with Canada, pour Augie a double! Who knows, maybe with enough Scotch, we can end the War on Canada. :-D:-D

Whiskey? Whiskey!!? Sir, I poured Scotch... Single Malt at that!

While I do enjoy some Irish and American Whiskey's, I don't equate them with a good Single Malt. In the spirit of Xmass, I bring top shelf to the negotiating table.

    Hmmph. whiskey...

    :-D:-D:-D:-D

I don't know what it is with strong alcoholic drinks I just don't like them and can't take them, they were usually something I'd neck just to get wasted, now I never touch them and they still taste like I'm drinking some kind of neat chemical...

Dunno,do your tastes change as you get older?Did you you guys like whiskey when you were in your twenties or thirties?

    Maybe I'm a light weight wuss:-D

I think the Scotch and such is an acquired taste. When I was younger, I might have some mixed in a drink, now I enjoy them neat. Except vodka. That needs a mixer.

I never use ice with them, can't stand watered down stuff. ;)

I guess we have aged into the "old fart" Christmas this year. The daughter is off to Wisconsin with a friend to spend the holidays. So the house is empty and all we will be doing is hanging three stockings for the dogs. Maybe dinner out for ourselves. Everything else we have needed has been bought already so this year is going to be all about the animals.
