So now what is showing on the screen? If just a prompt like C: or C:/test then remove USB and start normally. You should see a Windows preinstallation screen and hopefully it sets up the computer. (On mine it loops and restarts but I don't have the correct hardware) I believe on yours it should ask you setup questions. *fingers crossed*

That is further than it went on mine so it is looking good.

I think I should take a break and switch gears before I give you any advice on that. All the drivers should have been preloaded.

You can't connect to internet if you use Lan cable? You could take a look in Device Manager for any yellow question marks. Start>Run>type in devmgmt.msc Any unknown devices?

Oh, before getting too creative try restarting and see if anything new is detected. Might also try Find new Hardware wizard in Control Panel.

Check the tag on the bottom for the exact model number.

Do you see either 4068 or 4187.

Any model numbers in form one number and two letters. Such as 3GH or 2JL?

I'm inclined to just go with Factory. I think that makes sense. I bet it will install most of the drivers.

I would say you have to make a choice anyway so go with factory. I have your drivers page but it doesn't do much good until you get back to XP.

ok i chose factory then it rebooted...back to xp

This is the link to your drivers . If you download them start with the intel one at the bottom. [Don't do the bios update!]

I'm not exactly sure what is going on. I think there is something wrong with the image or the MBR we wrote. We shouldn't being seeing that popup. It should have ran once and disappeared.

Were you prompted to choose your user name when it first started?

It couldn't hurt to run updates and maybe checkout your drivers page. I have to go out so I can't do this right now. I'll check back later.

i really dont remember...but xp boots up no issues there..just having issus with hooking up wireless.i still get that popup its just as easy to close it but im thinking maybe i have to check one of the boxs.

if i could i would take a picture so ya can see.i did all the drivers listed not the bios one.

When you hit Start is there a username at the top? Do you remember having to agree to the MS license?
When you go Start>All Programs are there any Lenovo or Recovery Software listed. (My guess is this was never installed either)

Does device manager still have some yellow marks? I'm trying to figure out if wireless and sound are a driver problem or something else.

It appears that setup didn't finish, I'm thinking that the initial part should of been the regular load and then there should have been a second part where the drivers were loaded. I've only had a quick glance around the net so I am unsure of exactly what went wrong. Whether it was just a fluke on installation or if it was a problem with the way we started the install. (I don't see how it could have started wrong because the initial phase completed)

Oh, and lastly, what does your boot.ini look like--only one choice multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home" /fastdetect?

    Sorry, I'm distracted tonight.

    I think it is right-click My Computer>select Manage>Advanced tab>Startup and Recovery>Edit Should open boot.ini in Notepad.

You would be looking to see if there was only one line starting with multi or two under [operating systems]. And what the partition number is in the default line. Actually in Notepad just do Edit>Select All and then copy and paste in your post here then close Notepad.

You can download and run this Intel chipset http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...hipset+Software+Installation+Utility&lang=eng program and see what it tells you. I haven't run it in quite a while but the description shows it should help find and install drivers. Your list seems to show you still need Intel chipset and video. (I realize you already tried the downloads from Lenovo but this utility should help)

    *bootini looks fine

Does device manager have any more information now?

You are sure you have run the intel chipset and intel video from lenovo?

Go to Explorer and look for a folder C:\DRIVERS\WIN\CHIPSET see if it exists. That would be go to C: open the Drivers folder go into WIN open the Chipset folder and see if there is a setup.exe.

    You rebooted?

Take that 54ch03ww.exe and use 7zip to extract it to a folder.
Then let's see if we can install it manually.

im in the middle of 93 windows updates.is that ok

    split to volume should be?

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Go ahead and finish the updates. I should catch up on my sleep tonight anyway. We can do this tomorrow.

[If you haven't already deleted the GHO file I would keep it if you can spare the space. I'm going to read up and try to determine if this was just a fluke and using the same file again might run fine this time. Others have recovered their system with no mention of any problems. The file is the proper size.] I'm good with just going ahead and getting this current version setup with all the drivers but I'm wondering if you will miss the Quick BIOS internet thing or the version of Office that was never properly installed.

    ***********
I'm using a portable version of 7zip so it may be slightly different for you.
Right-click on the 54ch03ww.exe and Select 7zip (a menu should expand to the right and select "Extract to 54ch03ww" It will create a folder called 54ch03ww that contains the driver files.

In the 7zip window you can also browse for the 54ch03ww.exe and then click extract and the default is to create a folder named 54ch03ww.

It looks like the broadcom bluetooth might have something to do with audio. Have you installed that one.

I did notice the driver page in #388 was for the S10 model not the S10e.

I'm not good with audio drivers. The driver forum might be a better place to get help.

In Device Manager what is listed under Sound, Video Game--Do you see RealTek?

The item with all the numbers/letters in your list seems to be your monitor. What is listed in Device Manager under Monitors?

Note: When you save a picture, in the drop down box for file type choose png or jpg and it will be smaller.

    -video codecs

even when i try to play from media player i get this pop up.

windows media player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device.there may not be a sound device installed on your computor,it may be use by another program or it may not be functioning properly.

I really am not good at drivers and don't think I can be of much help here.

I can't figure out why the monitor has a ? since there seems to be no driver anywhere.

The Realtek thing I just don't know. I did see something about pre SP2 systems needing a MS fix. What XP Sevice Pack is installed? Just right click My Computer and select Properties.

    i download sp3.......

  50. sach2

    sach2 Major Geek Extraordinaire

Did you install the SP3 before the Realtek? I think the fix was only for certain computers but I really don't know. It couldn't hurt to Remove the Realtek in Device Manager restart and then reinstall it and restart. But I believe the problem was that the driver wouldn't install at all not that it didn't work.
