Am I being monitored!?

:eek I worry I, a vip in my delusions, may be the victim:cry of monitoring of some kind. Often when I try to connect to the internet via my dial-up connection, I get a message saying my modem [an internal one I put in myself:-D , so proud], is already in use and to disconnect whatever is using it. Well, what ghost is this! I live alone, don't have a fax or anything else that could be using my modem. Its just me, the computer, printer, and the cat, who hasn't learned the computer yet, tho he is a step up on the evolutionary path for cats. So what gives? Is someone remotely viewing somehow my keystrokes, etc???

Unless I have more problems I'll just continue as is.
Don't know how to do the port configuration thing, when I installed it years ago I just followed the instructions that came with.
