Hi all. I would like to know how if possible to insert a picture from my pics into a standard Windows wallpaper.

I can put the pic up as wallpaper, but the background colors are just blah.

Is there a way to put one of the Vista wallpapers up and insert my pic into it?

Okay...to address your first complaint about the quality of your photo when you use it as a background, it sounds like you don't have your camera settings set to take photos as a large enough file. You should increase the photo quality and size. That should fix that issue for you. You may just have to buy a larger memory card for your camera, but they are fairly inexpensive.

When you say you want to insert your pic into it, what do you mean? Are you saying you want to use the Vista pic and actually place your photo somewhere in there by editing the Vista one? I can't see why you wouldn't be able to if you have photoediting software installed.

The path to the folders and individual files should be:

    C:\ > Windows >Web >Wallpaper

Hi LauraR, My pic takes up about 2/3 of my screen. The background colors are just blah.

What I was hoping to do is to take my pic and insert it into one of the Vista background pics, to give it a little color. Either that, or figure out how to add a border to the pic that is a little more exciting. EG: flames, lightning bolts, cars.

Hope that helps clear things up a little.

Is this a picture you took with your new camera (I seem to recall you just got one)?

I think as a default setting, cameras Image Quality are set to 'Normal'. If you want to use them like this, you should set it to 'Fine'.

Do you have your heart set on one photo in particular? If you do, do you have any sort of photoediting software?

No, not taken with the new camera. It's a pic of my grandsons from my daughter's Facebook. I do have Gimp and Paint.net photo editing software. Just not sure how to add what I wanted.

Gimp, from what I've heard, is a very good program and should do it for you.

The first thing I would do is try to improve the photo of your grandson's.

Do you have working knowledge of Gimp at all?

Here's a tutorial after a quick search as far as placing a photo on top of another: http://www.helium.com/items/1876317-gimp-tutorial-how-to-place-pictures-within-pictures

I'm sure there are more out there. It's really not difficult and I'm sure you could work it out. Unfortunately, I don't have gimp, so can't really explain it to you.

If you would like (since I know you from around MGs;)) you can email me the pic and I can look at it to see if I can improve the quality using Photoshop and maybe add it to the other you are looking at. Up to you. If you do, just send me a pm.

Otherwise, maybe someone can come along who uses Gimp and help you out.
