Win7/Livemail Conflicts with Avast

After 3-4 months with Windows7 and Livemail, my ISP disconnected me today because Windows Livemail blocks all outgoing emails whilst my Avast 'scan outgoing mail' is switched on! Switch off Avast outgoing and everything is fine, until some spam smarty starts using my email server. I had had Avast outgoing switched off.

To satisfy my ISP I re-scanned everything and had net access again, and ISP suggested use Outlook to overcome the problem.

One of the problems also with Win 7 is its 64bit architecture which renders my digicam software and my Canon scanner useless, and both suppliers are not providing software updates !

So is it that Win 7 and 64 bit mean only certain mail packages will work? Any that you guys would suggest as a work-around to the email problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Conflict of Avast solved by removing Avast and installing AVG 2011 free. So far working well, and in past used earlier AVGs with no problems for years...

Frankly, none of this makes much sense. I use Windows Live Mail and have avast! Antivirus and have never had a issue with outgoing mail. And, I have never disabled the 'scan outgoing mail' setting.

Also, merely switching off the 'scan outgoing mail' setting would not result in "some spam smarty starts using my email server." If someone else was able to use your email server, meaning use your email account to send mail, that suggests someone got your email account password and thereby was able to use your account.

So, perhaps you need to use a more difficult password and improve your secrecy of it. And, perhaps you need some other protection apps, mainly spyware/malware apps installed. Where did you stand in that area?

There was evidence of 'undelivered emails' returns in my inbox. The ISP Techo (iinet Australia, very large) said that some spammers were able to hitch up with/without my password; and in any event password was changed. Zone Alarm & Spybot are also on board.

I never use email scanning application of any antivirus as I find them pointless as the general scanner will catch any malware anyways, you are IMHO just adding an extra layer of scanning that can cause slowness or issues with apps.

Not Microsoft or Windows 7 or 64bit issue, this is poor support from 3rd part developers to re-program their drivers for new OSes, they would much prefer to state that its too hard to do and make the end user buy a new hardware device.

No, as I use in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Windows Live Mail 2011, Outlook 2010 (did use Outlook 2007 until I upgraded), Thunderbird, which are the main email clients all ok in x64. All also work with Avast 5.0.667 ok. This combination is also on 6 seperate PCs I have of various specs and makes.

If that is the work around then great, but AVG latest version has its own issues at present, but if it works ok for you then that is great and the resolution to your original issue.

I use Window Live Mail and Avast on windows 7. Yesterday I was able to check my email( with WLM ). Today I registered my Avast and now I can't check my email( with WLM ). But when I tried to check my emails after disabling Avast it worked. Is there anyway to add an exception to the mail filter?
