Should I be doing this?

I run a hosting company, and we provide a free plan. One free client used our SMTP services to spam, and it caused our datacenter to shut us down and charge a fee of $85. I am one of 3 owners, and I took charge and decided to pay. Should I be doing this on my own?

Regardless, I am kind of in between a rock and a hard place. I could use some donations. I just need $48 more! lol

 

If there are three equal owners, then all three should equally pay the fee. Assuming the other two knew about it before you decided to pay it on your own, that is.

 

If they share in the profits equally then they should share in the liabilities. That was an expensive lesson you got Zack.

Just for the future purposes, set a limit on the free accounts in terms of what they can send out.

I did. He's recieving a bill for $85 that he's not going to pay. Lol.

 

Rebuild the first page with a message that guy is a spamming stiff and put his email on it if he does not pay.

 

Probably a throw away e-mail addy if not someone else's. They found an easy hole here and used it. It's just like them using people's unsecured wi-fi to send spam. One has to protect themselves, it's like leaving the front door open with a sign out front saying 'come on in!'. They'll find you easily man!

 

It was a hacking site that put a malicious script in my /tmp. It was sending emails to a huge list. It kept spawning exim until it ran out of memory. :/
