I been having a problem as of late with my Pioneer radio in my van and i need to find out if it has a factory Amp somewhere inside the van..

THe problem is at first it played fine then one day i started to get a hiss out the rear speakers, Then afew days later i lost all sound. Now at first i thought the radio went out but when you turn it off and back on you hear a pop out the rear speakers so that made me think the radio went out but then if i hit a bump or two down the road you will start to hear sound and hit another bump and lost sound or when you get sound you will get a hiss out the rear speakers and sound out only the left front dash speaker and driver door speaker.....

The radio is a Pioneer Primer DEH-P7900BT
and the van is a 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE 3.3L Wheelchair van conversion done by the braun company...

If my memory serves me correctly (from the few years I sold my soul by selling Dodge vehicles :heli) none of the Dodge or Plymouth models used external amps; everything was built into the radio itself (a.k.a. Head Unit).

If the problem started within a few weeks of the handicapped conversion it's possible the installers may have pinched or shorted speaker wires running to the back of the van.

If the conversion has been in place for a while, it sounds as there is either a problem with the head unit (radio) itself or the wiring connections running out of it to the speakers.

Since there are other nearby (and expensive) circuits built in for the handicapped accessible features, you should take it to and reputable (and insured) car stereo shop that has trained, experienced installers.

If you want sound quality equal to or a bit better than the OEM radio, a good quality AM/FM/CD unit should run about $150 or less. Adding in the specific trim, wiring harnesses and labor, you should get out for around $300 (possibly less).

In looking for the stereo itself, try them in the store's showroom before purchase. Some models have so many bells and whistles they can be a distraction while driving; so purchase based on ease of use.

Given the age of the van, the speakers may also need replacing. If this is the case, even the cheapest models most shops sell are equal to or better than what Plymouth installed 15 years ago.

Do not go back to a Dodge/Chrysler dealership for this. They will charge you between $450-$600 for the radio alone plus a fortune on labor. If you want a radio similar to your current one, ask the car stereo shop if they have any "pulls" that were almost new when taken out of another Dodge/Chrysler to put in a more expensive system.

    Hope these tips help. :)

As for the conversion it was set up like this when it was new. it has an 11inch lowered floor, power kneel, Ramp, power sliding door. the gas tank was moved to the rear right in front of the rear bumper same as the muffler, spare tire moved to right behind the rear bench seat and the front seats are removable remote sliding door as well as a key on the back to power open the side door and lower the ramp and two switches inside to open it so there had been alot of mods done to this van factory. I was told by dodge one time that if it has the infinity sound system it has an Amp in the van somewhere but they didn't know where cause how old it is they can't look it up. I have not given up on the head unit because of the wiredness of the problems like hitting a bump sounds to much like some wiring came loose.

So i got out and walked to the back of the van and hit the lift gate with my hand and the radio started working....... Can anyone tell me what is in the lift gate that would cause this?????

There is likely a loose or shorted connection to one of the rear speakers. I would take off the rear speaker covers, remove the speakers and check the wires to be sure they're tightly connected and no bare wire is touching anything.
