I am not sure if this is a change resulting from Opera 11 Software install, or a change to the MG site.

I like to copy and post various MG threads, links and info, from MG Forums to my Zulupad database. An example, when I clicked on Itunes MG thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=229663, yesterday, it used to open up exactly as shown here.

Now it opens up as forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php and requires clicking on it to return as http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=229663

I'd like to know if this an Opera V11 "feature" :-D or a change to MG site programming.

    Thanks guys.

    Hi Bazza

That is due to a change in Opera.

Go to Opera upgrade and look at safer address field in the new features list.

    Thanks mjnc. :major
I just figured out that it relates to Opera V11 as my email provider (just accessed) does the same thing. :cry :(

    Just checked out:-
    at your link, provided.

I can't see what advantage this is. :confused
It is just a PITA in my opinion, and an extra step involved (for me).
If it must be part of v11, it should provide an option to turn it off. ;)

    Thanks again, mjnc

    :-o :-o :-o

I thought I might be able to get rid of this Opera v11 "feature" so I clicked on the "Web" tab and then deleted it. Now, no link at all appears. :cry

How do I get it back, or do I have to re-install V11? :-o :-o:-o

No, you don't have to reinstall.

Opera 11 - Display the full URL in the address bar

    Open a new tab: opera:config
In the search field type 'hide'
    uncheck 'Hide URL parameter'
    click 'Save'

    another link:
Show Full URL in the Address Bar

I like Opera, but from the looks, I will stay with v10.6.

    hrlow2, :-D

For my needs, I think I'll go back to v9.25 :major
Nothing introduced since, has improved my experience with Opera.
Can't remember when Speed Dial expanded for 9 to 20. That may have occurred after v 9.25 though.

In fact the opposite has occurred. I've just done the Opera survey and for most of the features in the survey, I answered "don't know, don't use, don't care"

I use Opera for the speed, the expanded Speed Dial (use 16), and as a Browser (with my simple requirements)

Many thanks for your quick replies. Unfortunately I think you are dealing with a lost cause (that's me). When I stupidly deleted the Web tab :-o it radically changed the Opera display (see thumbnail) and I can't work on your links (that's my fault, I guess)

I still much prefer v9.25, with its keeping of the number of downloads and speed of download (for each download) for longer than all subsequent versions. My needs are very simple. Just to connect to the Internet, download stuff, Speed dial, and keep a record of my downloads for more than a short time.

I did try Firefox, because Opera (at the time) could not connect to my email provider. As soon as Opera allowed me to connect to email, I deleted Firefox.

I really appreciate your help, in trying to help me. :-D

I suppose you know that you can change the number of rows and columns on
the speed dial page by editing the speeddial.ini file.
At the bottom of the file is a section like this:

    [Size]
    Rows=6
    Columns=7

    Whatever you want.

For Win XP, the file is located in:

    Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Opera\Opera

I'm using ver 11 now and I like OK.
The tab stacking is pretty cool.

If you're going to use Opera, you really ought to look at setting up Web Of Trust,
as explained in the Opera lovers post. It does work with a few search engines
    including Google and Bing.

    cheers

    Thanks again, mjnc :major :major

One last question, I hope. :-D

Can I alter Speed Dial on v9.25 from default=9, to 16, by editing the speeddial.ini file ?????????? Version v9.25 with 16 Speed Dial shortcuts would be my (almost) perfect version of Opera. :-D

Click on the configure button at the bottom right corner of Speed Dial.
    v 10.6 has 2x2 up to 5x5. 4x4 is one option.

You can make it whatever you want.
Just don't edit the file while Opera is running. ;)

Thanks hrlow2. Unfortunately that is not (an option) displayed in v9.25. :cry
    Standard is 3x3=9

I just picked up on what you said about keeping a record of your downloads.
That was an issue with me also.

There is a fix for that as well.
    • Open a new tab and enter about:config in the address bar.
    • Scroll down to TransferWindow and open that dialog.
    • Adjust the Keep Entries Days to the value you want.
    • Click the Save button when you're finished.

To make the Downloads window open when a download starts,
put the number 1 in Activate on new transfer
Also make sure show details is ticked, as I think that is what you want.

You may have to restart the browser to make it work.

You might want to keep Pale Moon installed for those web sites/pages that Opera doesn't display properly and for sites that won't "allow" Opera. :(
Pale Moon is just Firefox optimized for Windows.
    That's what I use. :cool

Never found a fix for the download speed issue.
If that wasn't such a must have for you, you could use a later version that
    would be more secure.

    @ mjnc.

I've gone back to v10.63 for the moment.
I will uninstall v10.63 and try v9.25 again. I don't think v9.25 has a speeddial.ini file, but I'll have to re-install it again :-D to check that out.

Thanks again for your hints and help, but I think I'll stay away from v11 for a while.

    Bazza

NB: Version info, on current Opera, loaded. ;)
