I have several videos that are done in a news format covering many different subjects in each video. I want to cut a clip from each video and create one video so I can follow along in one video as a certain story unfolds.

Is there free software that lets me do this?

Also I have RealPlayer SP and when I create a cut video I cannot fast forward the video while playing in my KMPlayer. Is this a function RealPlayer SP does so no one can watch their cut vids on any player than there own? Is this a common thing in video editing software?

    Hi

Try Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 its also Free, so no harm is seeing if it will do what you want.

Yeah some video editing apps have proprietory formats so cross editing at times in not possible.

Which format are the original video clips? And which format are saving the edited video into?

Unfortunately this program won't recognize any of my files. Thanks for the help anyways.

So here is the process. I cut the video with RealPlayer SP, I join it with Free AVI MPEG WMV MP4 FLV Video Joiner and strangely after I join it together I no longer have issues with KMPlayer.

It's a process, but it works in a relatively short time. By the way for all those who would rather convert their vids and cut the vid in their video editor of choice, conversion took me forever, so this 3 different software process took less than 10 min and the conversation process took me 35min. So just a heads up if you think less programs equals less time.

    Thanks for your resolution.

Good to get first hand advice on editing video--especially flv(s). There is a lot of suspect flv video software out there because they know they have a built in pool of YouTube viewers to take advantage of.

Did you try an online video converter? I only tried one or two for flv files to avi but they didn't take long at all for conversion. I can't say much as to quality because flv(s) aren't generally that great to begin with.

Is this the RealPlayer SP that you used?

since I've been looking to edit flv files, this might work; it mentions it is portable which I'd prefer since I do not like to install anything from RealPlayer on my computers.

    I don't know, I only download from download.cnet.com.

Here is a pic of the icons I have for what I used.

Sorry, most of us do not download from cnet.com because some of the downloads cannot be trusted to be spyware/malware free unlike the downloads at MG.:)

Can you speak more on this, I have never gotten any spyware on that site and they seem to report it on the download as soon as a problem emerges so slippage is small. Does MajorGeeks go through a similar process? How does MajorGeeks avoid slippage? I might consider only downloading from you guys if you can show how this is done.

Holly cow almost as many bad reviews as good ones 50% for download.com.... Major geeks is a crisp 6%, apparently the best I have seen. Didn't realize how much slippage there was in download.com, I don't even understand how a website like that has been allowed to get a green rating.
