I have both a MAC and a PC and I am using Windows 2003 XP on both so that the Outlooks sync with one another. Whenever I delete, read or update my emails on one computer the other automaticlly modifies for the changes.

I now have a PC with Windows 7 and I am using the Windows Live Mail via Open Window. The syncing does not happen with this computer when changes are made on the others. Emails do not delete or show that they have been read when these actions are taken on my other computers. Is this because of the operating system differences or the fact that I am not using the Windows 7 Outlook application???

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You are correct. Outlook syncs with Outlook, not with Windows Live mail.

How did you setup this synchronizing between those two computers? Are you using an Exchange server with Outlook? Is your email account setup in Outlook as an IMAP account? If you're using neither of these methods, then what method are you using to synch them? You had to have done something special to make that work; it's not simply a setting in Outlook for a POP mail account.

What do you mean by "Windows 7 Outlook application"? Outlook does not come with Windows 7. It must be installed. In fact, Windows 7 comes with no email application, but Windows Live Mail is a free email app from Microsoft that works with Win XP/Vista/7.

The new PC has Win 7. I have tried both IMAP and POP with no help. Not sure how the Mac was setup but the PC with XP OS is using Win Outlook IMAP. All 3 PC are pulling e-mail off of my AOL account. When I read or delete a file from the XP PC or the MAC the other reflects what the other has done... But the new PC with Win7 using Live Mail still has the file as not-read or if deleted its still there. I would think its just a setting or I could use a different App on the new PC that will work like the other 2 PC....

    Thanks.

In Windows Live Mail, if you go to Tools, Accounts, select your AOL account, and click on Properties, do the Properties screen confirm the account is setup as an IMAP account, or is it set as a POP account?

Here's a reference on setting up an IMAP account in various email clients but it does not specifically cover Windows Live Mail, but the instructions for OE6 should be fairly easy to apply to Windows Live Mail: http://about.aol.com/faq/openmailaccess

And, if you do, indeed, have Windows Live Mail correctly configured for an AOL IMAP account, are you using the Sync button at the top of Windows Live Mail to synchronize Windows Live Mail with your IMAP account?
