    COMP SPECS:
AMD Athlon 64 (one core) 2.0 Ghz
    1GB OCZ (512MBx2) RAM
    256MB Nvidia GeForce 6200
    Biostar n325-a7 mobo

WiFi randomly disconnects under massive work loads (speeds up to 1.2MB/sec). When the disconnect happens the PC does not load or close anything but I can move windows around that are open.

I can't solve this problem, it also happens in Windows Server 2003 64-bit. I have the WL 685ZyDra WiFi drivers for a Wi-Max USB 2.0 wireless device.

I noticed it happens most when I have torrents going... and when I run videos, skype video, or in some cases emulation with the downloads, it compounds the problem.

    Any suggestions?

    Greetings, johnny_chronic.

You might try checking your Event Viewer for any obvious flags at or near the time of the crash.

What browser are you using? You might try a different browser, see if your symptoms change.

Sounds to me as if the machine is bottlenecking, since you're stressing it with the amount of throughput. Any way you can bypass the USB device, connect directly to the modem/router to see if there's a difference?

I checked the event viewer against the WiFi disconnect OS freeze problem.... I have a DCOM error around the same time. It seems the service is interrupted.

I noticed I am not the only one with this 'bug'.

Was there an update from Microsoft that addresses and fixes this problem?

I do believe if I hardwire plugged my PC into a LAN it would work fine. I want to avoid that because I don't have that option at this time.

Hmmm... how to help stop the WiFi tax disconnect freeze problem? This wouldn't just save me, but also many others!

I'm not aware of a specific Microsoft fix, but there may be one - if I run across one, I'll let you know.

Are you running any 3rd-party firewall software? If so, you might try disabling it temporarily as a troubleshooting measure - the same applies to any real-time antispyware protection programs.

As far as the possibility of DCOM causing the issues, in XP you can apparently disable DCOM: http://www.updatexp.com/dcom-windows-xp.html.

Just curious: do the freezes occur when you're normally surfing, without the "massive work loads" and "torrents going... and when I run videos, skype video, or in some cases emulation"?

Just had another thought: any reason why you haven't updated to SP3? There may be some connectivity issues addressed in that service pack.

I keep processes to the smallest amt. Xp bare bones. Dcom has been disabled. The problem only occurs on massive net workloads to multiple sites or torrents.

Sp3 taxes my system too much. The bug still exists in sp3. I also use firefox.

I believe that Microsoft knows of this issue but I have no evidence to support my claim.
