I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling drives and drivers. I have tried disabling and enabling restarting all that good stuff. I have tried deleting upper and lower filters in regedit. I have tried changing the drive letters. Nothing seems to get these things to work. I had some virus on my comp but it is gone now. I have already received help from Bleeping computer.
    The topic is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic369738.html
I have tried the Fix It program from microsoft but it says: Fix It troubleshooting cannot continue because and error occurred. This troubleshooter doesn't apply to this computer.
Can anyone help me get my drives to work?

    Hi

Try the troubleshooter FixIt again but only after you clean your Temp Internet files folder out, use something like CCleaner.

I take it this is a USB CDROM drive, and what make and model?

In device manager do you have any yellow ! marks?
Have you tried Safe Mode (F8 at boot) to see if the drive can be accessed?
If this is a USB CDROM then does it work ok in another PC?

There are no yellow marks, all drivers are up to date.
I used CCleaner and the fix it still don't work.
I tried using fix it in safe mode and still don't work.
Although the CD-Rom and USB drives do work in safe mode but not in normal mode.
    CD-Rom drive is Lite-on LTR-48327S

    Hi Elvy

Please do try the drive with another computer to see if it works. This will rule out the drive as a possible issue.

    mcsmc, you missed this
So windows is doing something in normal mode it doesn't do in safe mode to prevent the drives from working.

    Hi

Its likely a startup of yours that could be causing this especially if Safe Mode works ok, so the option to troubleshoot this is to open msconfig up (start > run and type msconfig) then in the startup tab disable everything and reboot.

Is your USB CDROM now ok?

If it is enable one item at a time and reboot, and test, and keep doing that until you find the culprit and let us know the application.

Also run the below and attach the log

Reading over your thread at bleeping computer I see this
I know that can cause optical drive problems.

I'm searching for any sort of cleanup tool because if Daemon bits and pieces remain, it can make your drive disappear.

Wow, that didn't work either. What about policies? I don't know much about how they work, but is there some kind of program to fix them?
