I have a Paradyne Modem Model 6211-11-200. My question is I was trying to get a job thru Convergys (from home) and I couldn't get the job because my VoIP wasn't correct and when I did the test, the test said that I couldn't be pinged. I was told later that it was due to a port in the modem. I need to know how I can get that fixed. I guess I need to find out how to open that port so that my VoIP can connect to Convergys

    Hi

What Windows version and Service pack are you using? this helps with knowing what Windows Firewall you have, aslo tell us what if any other 3rd party firewalls you have or just name all your security software installed,

Did they not tell you what ports they use for VOIP?

Common ones I know of are if they are using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) are....
    Port 5060 TCP and UDP
    Port 5004 UDP
    Port 10000 UDP
    Ports 16348-32768 UDP

may give you soem help on identifying and opening the port http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875357

Can you access your routers menus? some have a option to turn on VOIP.
What software are you using for VOIP chat?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. I haven't done anything to the firewall but I do have McAfee and Windows Defender on here for security and that's it. Im fixing to take McAfee off and use AVG. I also am on Private Network but when I changed that it messed me up.

I just looked at the front of my computer and it says that the Intel Pentium D Processor 915 with Dual Core 64-bit processor with Intel EM64T but under the Control Panel, System says that its a 32-bit operating system:(? Don't understand that one to be honest.

No they didn'ttell me which port. I don't think they know which port it is but I didn't ask.

I don't know how to access the routers menu and I dont have an exact VoIP software. That may be a problem. Not sure. I just know that when I tired pinging the computer it said that I couldn't be pinged. I have erased all pictures off my computer and put them on a USB drive so that it freed up more space. I have also deleted all music files.

Their website actually has that information. Its under "what if voice test fails". It reads in part, " The simulated traffic is routed over port 5060. If you have a home router or firewall, this port must be open to Internet traffic to successfully execute the test."
My problem is I have tried all of that. I am trying to figure out how to hook my phone router from charter to the router modem or the pc, whatever it needs to work. I have Charter phone and internet service so I guess its not voip, I dont know, but were gonna startve to death before I can figure it out and they will not provide ANY help. I have emailed them 3 or 4 times. No response. I guess they assume if you wanna work from home, you better be able to figure it out. But even self employeed persons get help

    Hi

Manual for that modem is HERE loging into that router is on pg27 and Port forwarding is on pg52 onwards.

Do you have a VOIP phone or microphone and speakers, as the latter is all you may need, but if a proper VOIP hardware device is needed then Convergys should specify and do HERE

Test is HERE if any errors post then verbatim.
