Everything in my PCI-E 2.0 Port running HOT

Hi last night my Evga 9800gt SSC blew out on me, and this morning i noticed it had actually burnt the pci-e port blackned. I thought it was just the graphics card that was the problem, so i put my moms 9800gt in my computer and noticed it was running at 70c idle. I took it back out and checked went over and checked my brothers 9800gt on his system and its running at 46c under stress.

Anyone got any idea what could be causing anything in my pci-e port to run super hot?

system specs: Evga 9800gt 512mb SSC, C2D E6600, GA-P35-DS3L, Raidmax 630w PSU, 6 gb ddr2.

 

Poor airflow setup in case, broken or not fully functioning fans, the list can go on and on, Is your case clean and free of dust? Thats were id start.

 

I'm assuming the old card worked properly for months or years before this happened. If so (and there are no obvious case fan failures), it's likely something on the motherboard/PCI-E port has shorted out - especially since you've had the same heat issue after replacing the card.

If you don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the motherboard and have an open PCI slot, consider a PCI video card such as

(Note that this is a wide card - it may cover whatever slot is next to it as well. The 9500GT is the most powerful card available for a standard PCI (not PCI-E) slot).
