Anyone use Hughesnet or Wildblue? I'm considering it (no DSL or cable or wireless around here). But I'm wondering if it's worth the cost. Also they limit your bandwith so how do I tell what I normally use with dialup? I've seen complaints on the internet that it's not like they advertise and your bandwidth gets used up fast but I don't believe all I read on the internet. I understand a slight delay for the signal to go to the satellite and back. I mostly just browse the web and do shopping online but would ike to be able to view clips on youtube (can't now). I'm not looking to download movies. It's a 2yr commitment (and one of the complaints I saw was speed was okay for the first 30 days then got slower and cust support is awful).

    Hi

I used to be with a Hughesnet agent. I wouldn't touch this company with a bargepole. Hughesnet and their agents supply Directway modems and all have the same policy.

I now have an Idirect modem, and am happy with it and the service I receive from their agent. If you go to the Idirect website, they will put you in contact with an agent near you. They have agents all over the world.

    Hope this helps

Be nice if you could give specific reasons for disliking this company other then "i used to use there service"

    1. My internet speed slowed down by half after a few months. They advised me to purchase the latest windows version which I did. That did not help. Turned out they they had oversubscribed the service.

    2. One by one, I was unable to connect through various ports. When I told them about the ports not being accessible, they said they had checked them and they were all open. Turned out they had blocked all but one port.

I can add to that, but will not. I contacted Hughesnet directly and never received a reply to phone calls or e mails.
