No OEM, need to reinstall

I recently ditched McAfee and put Comodo on only to find myself riddled with viruses (or one or two spread throughout Windows files etc) Cleaning it I am sure will mean an inoperable computer. Trouble is, my computer was shipped without an OEM (should be illegal I think). It has a valid reg key on a sticker at the bottom. Does anybody have a clue what I can do.

It is Windows XP Pro SP3

Contact the manufacturer. They may be able to supply you with a restore disc. The cost will depend on the manufacturer.

 

You are in the UK, in Lincoln? I had to look.

I would run the malware guide before resigning myself to reinstalling and going through the hassle with the manufacturer. It has been quiet a while since I've had to wipe a computer because of malware, thankfully. The guide here is excellent.

 

Might want to consider getting a disk anyway for future use if needed.

 

One thought is that if Windows is still fairly operational then you might still be able to burn the recovery discs. I believe any manufacturer that does not include Recovery discs must give you the option to burn them.

Do you see anything in All Programs related to your computer manufacturer name that may allow you to burn recovery discs?
