    Hi,

I was going to fit this graphics card today when i noticed it allows two power adaptors to be plugged in. The thing im confused about is, are both off these power adaptors needed to be plugged in because with only one i dont get any display? or will plugging both in damage my card?

    Cheers in advance

usually, when connecting power to video cards, if it supports a Modularized PCI-Express power connector (see here), I connect that and that's it. any addiional attachments and I worry about damaging the card.

however, if the card just not support the PCI-Express connectors but has these I would plug in two of them, (if possible) to ensure adiquite power to the card.

also please note the use of "I" in my post. As for what I would do. I would wait for more posts to this thread to double check my work :)

yeah, it has two of the Modularized PCI-Express power connectors on the side of the card. The funny thing is i plugged one of them in but im confused why there is two there :S

I dont get any display but the graphics card fan is on and the computer runs to windows :/ ?

    Cheers

I'm not that familiar with the procedure seeing as my gaming consists on xbox live and soon to be knights of the republic when it's released but perhaps it has to do with SLI or Crossfire?

also when installing a video card, make sure on-board video is disabled in BIOS. This can cause display issues

ALWAYS make sure both of the power connections are plugged in. The 6850 uses two 6 pin pci-e cables so you need a power supply with 2 more more 6 pin or 6+2 pin power connections. Without plugging both in you will experience the problems you are getting.

What power supply do you have and what are the rest of your system specs?

Thanks Burrell, this is why I told him NOT to follow my instruction, and to wait for other posters.

Brainfart moment, i searched the 6870!

Yeah all the 6850 cards have only 1 power connection, so you must have another card or are mistaking it for something else, can you take a picture so we can help you further.

Below is what the 6850's power connection looks like

    And this is the 6870

If you have bought within the last couple of weeks it could also be the 6950

I too think he must have a 6870 as I just put a 6850 in my HTPC setup and it only has 1 external power connector on the card.

Porkiepvfc- you will have to have both connectors hooked up for the card to work properly.
