Apparently, back in 1908 there was a failed attempt to reach the South Pole. At some point in this failed attempt, those involved starting stashing things they thought they'd need to survive until they could be rescued, or until the winter passed and they would be thawed out. Anwyay- one of the many things found in this recently discovered cache, was whiskey- several perfectly intact bottles of 100 year-old whiskey in what appears to be perfect drinkable condition.

"For the next six weeks, the whisky will be analysed, nosed, and tasted in full laboratory conditions."

Hmm, I will be glad to take a bottle to test. In my lab. :-D We have a bottle of Port that is over 100 years old at work. Would love to 'test' that one too.

But the molecules in whiskey get damaged by severe cold! That's why you don't ice it... :(

I will still do my best to test the flawed stuff. :-D Ice, in whiskey? :boxing I have heard of that heathen custom. Did not believe it. I might put a whiskey glass in the freezer for a few mins in the summer, but my whiskey's do not see ice or water.

Now with the Jack, maybe some Coke. :-D

I occasionally use these, in bourbon... yum-yum. :)

Oh no, you bought those? I just put my glass in the freezer. ;) If I want rocks, some bleach and boiling water will have me up and freezing in a couple of hours.

But, if you like them, 'rock on' with them. :-D

Wow that's pretty extreme IMO just to keep your whiskey full strength and cold,I like it though its the kind of thing I'd use.

In a similar vein I've just built a device that keeps my hot drink hot, using a metal tin, loft insulation and a candle.Keeps my drink at 75C.

I didn't buy them. I cashed in my ThinkGeek loyalty points for them. :p
