    Hi all.
I have two USB sockets on the front of my case.
One on top of the other.
When I plug something into the top one it shuts the computer down, no warning, just shuts down.
    The bottom one works fine.
Can these things be bought seperately (i've had a quick look but haven't found one yet) or do they only come with the case?
Of course it could be the plug on the mobo but I would have thought that neither would work if that was the case.
    Any other ideas??
    Cheers.

    Hi

They tend to come with the case and are in some cases not standard fit type things that you can just buy.

I would just in case unplug the USB cable from the mobo and then re-plug it in again, but it sounds like a wiring issue inside the USB socket as it seems to be shorting.

Also just double check that there are no yellow ! marks in Device Manager.

David GP is right. If the device manager (yellow "!") doesn't solve the issue, I'd put a small piece of tape over the defective USB port(s) and stop using them. If it is a short, it may damage or destroy whatever USB device gets plugged into it.

Your easiest solution is to get a 4 or 7 port powered USB Hub plus a 6 foot (2 meter) USB extension cable such as:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...re=usb_extension_cable-_-12-270-105-_-Product

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817111976

With the single USB cable included it should stretch from a back USB port to the top of a small PC case. The longer ext. cable will let you mount it to the top front of any PC case or directly on your desk.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hi both.
    Thanks for the replies.
I've already tried the unplugging replugging thing and checked the device manager, no yellows.
I have a three port powered hub but it doesn't always recognise stuff and the front ports were very handy.
I'll do the tape thing and put up with one port.
    Thanks for the suggestions.
