Internet screws up performance

    I have a lot of music and videos on my computer. I can watch/listen and they are fine, but as soon as I connect to the internet, everything screws up. Mouse won't act right, videos won't play right...it's really odd. Ideas?

    Hi

    What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?
    What Browser are you using?
    What security software do you have installed?

    How long has this been going on for and have you installed anything new just before this happened?


    Have you scanned for malware?
    Clear your Temps and Cookies out using CCLeaner's Cleaner option.

    Try another browser, so if you use Internet Explorer, then use Firefox or Opera to test its not happening with them as this will help narrow down the cause.

    Boot into Safe Mode with Networking (F8 at boot) and then see if the internet works ok while playing music?

    Using XP Pro Service Pack 3. AVG free and Malwarebytes free. Have scanned and removed everything found. No cookies or temp. internet files. Use both IE and Mozilla. Happens with both. Will try the last two options tho. Haven't used C cleaner. It ran fine at someone Else's house...no problems whatsoever.

    If your PC ran ok on someone elses internet while playing media files, have you rebooted your router? (what make and model is it)

    Her computer is an E-Machine W3505. Her computer and router, and everything were unplugged and re-started. But, I will have her try a total reset and see what happens.

    Is there some kind of P2P software running that goes active when the computer connects to the internet? Thinks like Kazaa or some type of torrent software?
