Unfortunately, this is my first post on the site. So "hello, nice to meet you," and "please help me save my computer," are going to be part of the same message.

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y560p from fry's electronics. By recently, I mean it was within the last month. System specifications are as follows:

    Processor: Intel i7 2630QM (2.00GHz)
    Memory: 4GB DDR3
Video Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 6570m, 1GB memory
Hard Disk: 500 GB 5400 rpm SATA
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium

All in all I am thoroughly impressed with the capabilities of this machine. It is unfortunate that after less than a month I am experiencing my first BSOD on windows 7 since its release.

Attached are text files of my debugged minidump files.

As you can see, the first dump (020311.txt) appears to be pointing to a generic hardware fault, with the bucket id "X64_0x124_GenuineIntel_PROCESSOR_CACHE_PRV." At that time, I was doing some basic text editing, and surfing the web. Nothing strenuous was being performed by the processor. This was NOT a BSOD, but rather the computer shut itself off immediately with no warning. The last time I had an issue like that with my desktop computer, it ended up being a motherboard fault.

Just before getting the second error, I was preparing to watch a video on youtube. I've watched plenty of youtube videos with no issues, but this time I got a BSOD. The text file associated with this BSOD is "020411.txt." As you can see, the debug is pointing to "X64_0x116_IMAGE_atikmpag.sys." It told me that it failed to reset the display driver.

Generally with an issue like this, I would just update my graphics driver, but the AMD website does not have a driver category for the 6500m chipset, and the Lenovo website only has the version of the driver which is already installed on my machine.

It is worth noting that I am currently using the laptop to type this message, and I have not had recurring identical BSOD errors.

I have a 3 year warranty with Fry's, but the store is over an hour away. I would prefer not to have to drive all the way up there twice, to drop it off and to pick it up. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thank you for your help!
    Matt

    Hi

To be honest I would be seeking a replacement Laptop from Frys as in less than a month you have issues, thats not good and could be hardware failure.

I would ask though have you been updating drivers and if so did you use a driver finder app (or maybe not and did it manually)?

I've been looking around manually. Are you suggesting that I try the device driver app?

I really don't want to get a new laptop, as I have been doing a LOT on this machine. The re-installs alone would take me multiple days. I wonder if they would switch out the hard drive for me?

    Hi

NO was more wanting to know if you had used one as they are the cause of many a driver issue, so not to be IMHO used at all.

They may do on the HDD, but all I'm worried about is the laptop and hardware are new and even if we re-install drivers to try and clear up the BSOD issue it may still be a hardware fault, if the laptop was a year or so old it would be an option to try drivers but as its not a new laptop would be the best option.

You could try instaling the Chipset and rebooting then installing the ATI driver again and all are HERE

I would also disable using msconfig all your startups and rebooting, just to test one of your installed apps is not causing this, then if it works ok then enable one startup at a time and reboot, until you find the culprit.

What Security apps have you installed?

    I see.

    In response to your concerns:
I have not been able to duplicate these errors. As I said before, I have gotten one of each, and neither has happened since. This is not to say that there isn't something wrong, but rather I don't know how to debug it.

Also, I just looked at the Fry's Electronics exchange policy and it is <=15 days. That means I either have to fix it myself, or use my warranty. At this rate, I have a feeling I'm going to have to just take it up there and hope for the best.

As David posted, I am finding most people with this problem are having to update the ATI drivers.

Wow. I just read this info from the intel site about my i7. Thank you!

Great, so there has been a recall. That probably answers one of my two questions.

Now for the second question regarding my video drivers. I know I have the newest build of driver for my video card from the Lenovo site. However, there is not a 6570m driver on the ati/amd website that I can find. So would it be worth my time to uninstall the driver that I have installed and reinstall the same driver?
