Why are you going to use an ATI video card? Just curious. Nvidia is much better due to drivers, outperform ATI cards any day, and works better with Intel CPUs too. Personally, I'd go with a Nvidia GTX 460. Also, in that case, I'd recommend getting a motherboard that supports SLI versus Crossfire. :)

Great case, I couldn't recommend a better one.

I would NOT get that hard drive. Personally, I'd recommend getting a Seagate Enterprise series hard drive. They're a bit more expensive, but they are built to last and are much more reliable. If not a Seagate Enterprise, then a WD Caviar Black series.

I'm the friend that is looking at having it built. What motherboard would you recommend? Also I have done a little reading on the Nvidia GTX 460 and from what I have read it sounds like it isn't really that good for WoW. Do you have any personal experience with it that you could recommend?

I personally have a factory OCed Nvidia GTX 470 and play WoW with no issues whatsoever with good FPS on Ultra settings (40+ FPS in Stormwind). The 460 won't be too much worse, but if you're willing to spend the money, this is the card I got and am happy with (though 570s are out now and worth a look as well):

EDIT: I'd also HIGHLY recommend getting at least 6GB of RAM, if not more.

And actually, Crossfire/SLI won't matter unless you plan on using two graphics cards in the future.

Could you recommend a card he might get close to or the same fps with, that won't require any OC'ing?

It's factory OCed, which means it's manufactured and already set overclocked... no tweaking required! Plug and play.

I do plan on using two cards in the future once I get more money. I am looking at the new Nvidia 560t right now. Would you happen to have a recommendation that is similar to the one we choose for the motherboard?

Personally, I think the ram you've selected is wrong for this kind of system. First, it really should be ddr3-1600, not 1333, and it should have a heat dissipation shield on it.

The 560t is a great card, I've heard good things about it and it would probably be close or better in performance to the 470 I have right now.

As to a motherboard, strangely enough I'm not finding any decent ones with that CPU socket with SLI support.

Remember though, SLI will only matter if you're using two graphics cards TOGETHER. If you're using them for separate monitors, you won't be using SLI.

I didn't even bother to look at the RAM yet. Thanks.

I will be using them on the same monitor I have duel graphics cards on my laptop and run SLI graphics.

I'd stay away from the Nvidia chipset, too many compatibility problems. Stick with Intell. And stay away from MSI, they have a really spotty history. As you can tell, I'm not an AMD kind of guy.

I didn't really wanna go with MSI either, pretty much for the same reasons but I also didn't wanna go with a brand I never heard of, Honestly I like Asus, but I'm either not patient enough or just couldn't find anything SLI compatible, What would you suggest??

Do you require two graphics card slots or will just one do?

preferably two please. I want to run two cards eventually to run the SLI graphics.

Looks good to me, I'm guessing with this board you kept in mind that he wanted an SLI supported board so he can run two Graphics cards laer on, If that's the case...sweet..

UPDATE That's the same board we posted the first time, XD.
Pretty sure the other guy was saying it's not Sli supported.

oops. My mistake. But I have to ask, does it really matter, as long as you can get two graphics cards in there?

I'm not exactly sure what he wants to do by running two cards, he said he'll post and explain.

1 A GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPU must be paired with another GeForce GTX 560 Ti GPU (graphics card manufacturer can be different). SLI requires sufficient system cooling and a compatible power supply.

From what I understand from that it doesn't really matter about the motherboard because with the AMD it says Specifically that you need the motherboard.

AMD CrossFireX™ technology requires an AMD CrossFireX Ready motherboard, an AMD CrossFireX™ Bridge Interconnect (for each additional graphics card) and may require a specialized power supply.

my guess is he wants two cards to play games that support it. Why else would you get two cards? I personally think it's overkill, but I'm not much of a gamer.

  27. biogenesis

    biogenesis Sergeant

I agree that it's a bit of an overkill but Suppose it wold be nice to have. LOL.

    Btw, Does wow support it?

  28. abekl

    abekl First Sergeant

I'm not sure. I bet a quick look at the wow site would answer that.

  29. biogenesis

    biogenesis Sergeant

Yeah he said he looked it up and found that it does support it. So now back to the issue, lol.

There's no Earthly reason to have 2 graphics cards to play WoW. It BLAZES with my 470, a 560t would be the same if not better. Again, with all settings maxed out. I think he'll be JUST FINE with a single graphics card. The laptop using SLI makes a bit more sense as the laptop graphics cards are much weaker.

  31. abekl

    abekl First Sergeant

    yeah, from the site:
Are SLI or XFIRE features supported for multiple video cards?
Yes, these are supported features although that does not necessarily translate to higher performance.

So it sounds like your build is complete. You have the Asus MB, Intel CPU, ATI graphics card, GSkill memory, etc....

  33. biogenesis

    biogenesis Sergeant

Yeah I agree, I'm tellin him he should forget SLI and running two cards and just stick to this build and a single good graphic card, Honesty that's what id do.

  34. abekl

    abekl First Sergeant

That's good advise. And if he really wants to add a graphics card in the future, at least he's got that ability with this MB.

That's an open box item. Do thay have it fresh also? Looks like a good board, but be aware that it doesn't have USB 3 or SATA 6
