Superbowl XLV "entertainment"

I didn't see the half time entertainment as I don't think it was telecast in OZ (free-to-air TV), but I did see that "singer" singing the USA National Anthem.

Why can't "they" just sing it as written, without trying to add their own "versions" of how it should be sung (IMO).

I like the USA National anthem, and don't agree with it being modified by singers trying to outdo each other and gain a name for themselves.

What do you think of her effort?

I thought the National Anthem was OK, except where she screwed up the lyrics... As far as the other 'entertainment', I was underwhelmed.

Just out of curiosity Bazza, are you familiar with the history of our National Anthem? Pretty interesting stuff, if you like history. :major

 

Last time I sat down to watch the Grand Final, Advance Australia Fair was reduced to the first verse and one run of the chorus. Shoddy treatment of the national anthem, especially as it followed a couple of popular acts miming to their hit songs from several years previous.
As for the Star Spangled Banner, this is the performance by which I measure all others.

Wow!! I can hear a bit "country" in their voices - but that was very good singing - the harmony of their voices brought tears to my eyes.

Agreed, I thought it was horrendous, not only did she mess up the words but she went off key several times and all that vibrato she tried to add made it sound terrible. If I was American I would have been outraged at the total demolition of a national anthem (and yes as much as I hate to admit it, I do like the Star Spangled Banner) but to each thier own.

At least the right team won

I thought the cutaway shots to various players showed how bored they were with the Anthem version being "sung" by that singer, :-D and they were really wanting to get on with the game.

That was definitely 10x better than the job CA did on Sunday.

Maybe someone from the NFL will see this and book the Cuties for next year. I think you'd see a lot less boredom on the faces of the players and fans if they did.

Don't know about CA, but according to a relative of mine who is in the business of managing top performers for various events, most of these "superstars" are wasted or high by the time they set foot on the stage.

As for the half time show, I fell asleep.
