Before i start, i do not know alot about hardware ect. All i know is that i have got a GeForce 9800GT graphics card and since that, ive had nothing but problems.

Ive been having BSOD's and they are all different. All saved.
Most BSOD's are showing Nv_4disp.dll > my graphics card.
And are all stating that all new hardware be removed and re-installed + drivers.

Having 3/4 of these blue screens when playing COD - Black Ops Multiplayer.

Ive spoken to a 'specialist' and they told me that something or other (i think CPU) is using 7 times more than its capabilities - Im not sure.
Theyve told me to take the side off of my pc (he recons the BSOD's are caused by overheating.)
So ive been sitting in my office with one side of my pc box missing and im hoovering it once a week and a lot of the blue screens have gone.

MY GRAPHICS CARD HAS A WIRE FROM IT (SEEMS TO BE AUDIO) AND IT WAS PREVIOUSLY PLUGGED INTO A SPDIF_OUT MALE CONNECTOR. MAYBE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM. IVE TAKEN THE FEMALE CONNECTOR OUT AND LEFT IT HANGING. WHAT IS IT ??!?

I did a everest report for you. Didnt really understand what you wanted so i gave you my whole pc :)

Ok, now the bit that will confuse you, as it did I. I believe (not confirmed) that i changed my motherboard settings from an old version to a new incompatable version. From there i was told that this might be the problem. I am not sure what i did and what effects its had. I am so confused right now....

    Thanks for your support,

Right now, I think it may be bad video RAM.

I have the same motherboard here with a 9800GT 512MB, I'll do a comparison of your Everest report with mine very soon.

Can you track down the *.dmp files that are listed in the error messages please? If you can copy them to your Desktop, zip and attach them to your next reply, I might be able to squeeze more info out of them.

    Hi

IIRC this card needs a 6-pin auxiliary power connector from the PSU to power it up, does yours have this connected?

Could try a clean install of the nVidia drivers as below

What are your GPU temps (speedfan may help with this HERE)? your system temps look ok from the Everest log.

Ive just had the most insane idea. Please someone tell me that im stupid and that i was right in the 1st place.

Pictures of the nvidia geforce 9800gt look nothing like mine soo...

I thought that my graphics card is constantly malfunctioning becasue its not actually a nvidia geforce 9800gt. I open it up and have a look.

It says no name, no nvidia, no geforce, no fancy pictures and or casing like the pictures... the only thing i can read on it at this time is

    'GF9800GT'

I am being stupid.... right ?

    nothing like that.

Just recovered from another blue screen. (While playing Black Ops)

    0x0000007e i think.

Everything on my pc says its a ' Nvidia GeForce 9800GT '

Humm. I think i was right in the beggining.

Im going to do what David GP said. - GPU temp = 31c

Question to David GP - which one do i uninstall?(see attached)

I will not continue until i get an answer, as i do not want to mess this up. (Ive already created a system restore point)

Everest doesn't give the same log with Windows 7, so I can't do a full comparison.

Re the 'spare' connector that was previously connected to audio, I think it could be the audio for HDMI out. If so, it doesn't need to be connected.

Not all 9800GT's need or are fitted with the extra power connector, mine isn't.

There's a lot of visual differences between the 9800GTs (and most other gfx cards), it's down to how the different makers lay out the PCB's and how close to the reference board they are, also how they cool them, the shrouds around the cooling fan can make a big difference to the appearance.

Your dumps list some old, pre SP3, drivers that may need to be updated to the most recent versions for XP, if there are any, Googling the file names should allow you to track down what they are and where you can get the latest versions:
    Code:
    GTNDIS5.SYS	9/25/2003 14:15:31
    ASACPI.sys	8/13/2004 02:52:52

Can you tell us more about what you did to update the motherboard to what you think is an incompatible setting? Was it something you changed in the BIOS? Did you upgrade the BIOS?

Im confused. You want me to install these 'codes' ? 5 of them are before 2006. Mine was bought in 2006, so shouldnt i already have them on here ?

I went to the nvidia websight ( http://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-uk ) and clicked on motherboard drivers.
I downloaded the one it told me that i needed / could have. The pc then changed to Nvidia and downloaded. After that, nothing worked. No internet (i dont think, cant remember now), and other things (cant remember - sorry). Got p1553d off with it, and shut it down. Turned it on again another time and pow, its working again. Maybe just needed a re-boot.

Thanks all i can give you... sorry :(

Yes if installing chipset/motherboard drivers again or for the first time a reboot is needed, so if your PC is now working ok then thats good if not then let us know.

    From carrona.org: Cause:
This error is typically caused by a driver passing a bad memory descriptor list. For example, the driver might have called MmUnlockPages twice with the same list.
0x99 in the first parameter bracketed = A page table entry (PTE) or PFN is corrupt.

    http://www.osronline.com/article.cfm?article=334
This bugcheck usually occurs for one of two reasons, the first reason being memory corruption. If there is a buggy driver in the system that is writing on memory that it does not own, it could easily corrupt one of the PFN lists or entries.

    Hi Sorry

All of them apart from the TOP Nvidia one as thats your Chipset driver, the other three are part of the Graphics card, also do run Driver Sweeper as some driver components maybe left over and could contribute to the info and error that Satrow links too above.

Do let us know what devices in Device Manager have a yellow ! mark once you have re-installed the graphics driver.

    Hi Kane

Try re-installing the Chipset driver HERE then reboot (important to reboot) then install the Graphic Driver again from HERE

Those errors generally link to a corrupted file, likely one of the driver downloads, so do download them again.

Are you also instaling in the admin account and just to be on the safe side, disable your security applications, so Antivirus and if you have Spybot installed, uninstall it first belore installing the drivers.

    Hi Kane

Could you attach the mini020211-01.dmp file as per HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

but likely it still lists to the nv4_disp.dll again, as that new BSOD does highlight the PITA infinate loop error that can happen, some say that older nvidia drivers help but then some not so much, ist a hit an miss error to fix.

If its the links in post #17 and the Chipset then thats for your motherboard as its an ASUS P5N-E SLI which has a nvidia nforce chipset and worthwhile installing the chipset again and reboot then the graphics driver and reboot.

Is the rest of the insides of your PC clean and free from as much dust and fluff as possible, CPU, heatsink and fans etc?

I would at this point also test your ram out and use http://majorgeeks.com/MemTest_d350.html test only one ram stick at a time,

What Startup applications dow you have installed? can use the below to let us know this, also if you boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) is your PC not BSODing?

Previous to this thread i had brown hair, its now grey and falling out.... lol

Minidump requested is attached. > Had to zip it, the websight would not take the .dmp.

I can now confirm that Nv4_disp.dll is a part of my graphcs driver and its located in windows/system32.

Installation of link #1 worked wonderfully no problems. Installation of link #2 (graphics driver) came faulty. I did a 'fresh install' and the phyx driver failed to install.
So i re-downloaded the grapics driver and tried again. It failed again. Failed for a 3rd time. Its refusing to install Physx !

Whole pc internally is regularly cleaned, and hoovered. Theres only 1 part, which is a fan, that i cannot get to due to it being in the top of my pc inside its own box with the fan meshed up.
I dont know what a heatsink is & what a CPU looks like

Now we get to the interesting bit. See attachment 2.

Ram tests. Due to me having a duel core (Knowledge points me to 2 cores), the test told me to run 2 test simeltaneously. It also told me to enter 787 MB of ram to test. No idea why. Doing so, one test was completly fine. No problems, ran 202.5%. On the other hand, the 2nd one failed miserably. Ran 100.2%. Ended up with 438 errors. Most errors were FAQ #2 http://hcidesign.com/memtest/support.html At times, an error would pop up within 1 second of the last one.

Startup apps - See attachment 3

I hope this helps, thanks again david !

    Hi Kane

I agree with Satrow and we will need to clear this up first as the nv4_disp.dll errors maybe ram related, I did have a longer post just about to post but removed it for now.

Have you tried your PC with only one ram stick in at a time?

Nope. Have no idea how to. I think this one is going to need a 'how to run your PC with only one ram stick in at a time - instruction for dummies' haha

If you ever refer to something hardware related, i will 90% of the time have no idea.

Can you please explain how to, i will also look on internet.

    Hey Kane

Thats fine, we all have to learn somewhere and at some point, so how comfortable are you opening up your PC, likely you are as you have already taken the side off.

So with the PC off, what you need to do is locate the ram sticks and when you do, press the small latches at the top and bottom as they will release the ram, carefully do this to one stick of ram at a time (as going by your Everest log you have two sticks of ram in your PC) so just do this to one for now,

Then restart your PC and run the memory test on that stick, if all goes ok or not, if not take that ram stick out and place it on a peice of paper and write faulting ram (just as a reminder) then pop the other ram stick in and do the same test.

this page is about building a PC but the section part way down is on how to add ram but will show you what they look like and the location of them and how to get out... HERE

    Ok David. Get this..

    Run each RAM stick individually.....

Done it twice - once on each...

BOTH tests ran 200% and 0 Errors...

I am stumped. To make this easier, i would happily ring someone to do a 1-2-1 and try and sort it out that way and/or let someone take over my pc electronically via logmein123.com ect...

    Up to you though.

    Hi

Oh thats a pain that you didnt need, but at times Windows can think you have changed too many parts, if it doesnt activate online again ring them us as the phone number is a toll free one and say that you have had hardware issues and needed to take a few parts out and replace and they will re-activate Windows (I have to do this all the time).

But seems that now your ram is fine and thats a good sign.

    So try the below.

Good on the Chipset installing ok, a bit worrying on the nvidia physx driver though but try this as some users report than if it doesnt install directly when the main drivers install then open up the extracted folder and it should be in C:\nvidia and then look for the physx folder and install or the latest should be HERE (but do try the one in the nvidia folder first)

What error message did the physx driver give you and also if it errors on the above manual installs what are the errors?

Yes ithe minidump is nv4_disp.dll again.
A CPU heatsink and fan look like this (do note than not all look the same)
    http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/1922/imagescarc28dn.jpg

    Startups:
and dont manage these via msconfig or CCleaner, if they are disabled in msconfig or ccleaner then re-enable and reboot, then manage them in StartupCPL (as a few of the entries are duplicated and could be orphaned as managing via msconfig and uninstalling the application leaves an orphaned entry)

Using StartupCPL HERE disable the ones below (temp measure)

ctfmon.exe - Not actually needed unless you use alternative inputs for Office apps, great free app to remove this as it can be a pain to do is this one I use HERE
WMPNSCFG - disable (Windows media player) can start manually
Fraps - can start manually, and maybe part of the cause in BSOD in nvidia *just a thougth*
    NvMediaCenter - nvidia
    NvCplDaemon - nvidia
    nwiz - nvidia
ehtray - Media Centres taskbar icon, can manually start Media Centre if and when needed.
KHALMNPR - Logitech driver, disable just as a test for conflicts
PCMService - Cyberpower video can be manually run if and when needed
    RTHDCPL.EXE -Disable

With CCleaner and its Startup manager delete the below as they are not needed and add to resource usage without much benefit, they will recreate themselves on update or install of new version so just delete again.
    qttask.exe - delete
    QuickTime Task - delete
AdobeARM - delete and adds nothing from Adobe
Reader_sl - delete but update your Adobe Reader as you have old version.
ALCMTR ALCMTR.EXE - Taskbar icon for audio control panel, this you can find in normal Windows Control Panel
    DivXUpdate - Delete
NeroCheck - delete, can update nero manually
    qttask - a 2nd one delete this
GrooveMonitor - Office Groove, if you dont use Groove alot then delete

I may have duplicated a few going through the list but the ones in the CCLeaner log you have NO next to are good, just re-enable and recreate in StartupCPL, and ones to delete or addition ones to disable are above.

    Windows has been re-activated.

Is my Ram now ok ?

Physx installed via the c:\NVIDIA physx folder. Clicked on install and it worked. No errors. Cannot remember a error message, it just failed.

Downloaded your programme. Disabled all told to apart from 'nwiz' - couldnt find it.

Deleted all through Ccleaner than i was told too.

Nothing definitive there, still looking like a memory problem
I'd like you to run Memtest again, 7 runs minimum, overnight is better.

    Hey Kane,
I got the same Problem here...
Since i installed the latest nvidea drivers (266.58) i got bluescreens and Other nasty stuff like red stripes all across the screen. The last time i got an bsod i got the Same Error Code and the 2 Files.

I have the GeForce 8800gtx, and yesterday i thought it Might Be the Temperature and bought a New GPU cooler.

The First Time i got a bsod was While i Played Black ops!

    Sorry for the bad grammar..

If you see any other ideas about what it might be give me a shout Ap.st.

Are they only when you are playing black ops, when do you get them, what error messages and how often ?

Satrow, the thing with memtest is that if theres an error, it stops the test. So i leave it running overnight and i come back in the morning and 1.4% is done and an error was found, thats a waste of energy and electric isnt it ?

I will do it though, but is there a way to continue scanning without having to manually click?

If it stops with an error then you need to troubleshoot it, pull 1 stick, put the stick in another slot, whatever it takes.

    Memtest86 troubleshooting memory errors.

I forgot to mention but it happened again which reminded me. When i (only happened twice now) load my pc from main, then from the box, its starts normally. Then i come back to the room to find it black screen with this message.

'DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'

Well i have no disk so i just click enter, and the message dissapears for about half a second then re-appears. Have to turn pc of by box, then turn back on and its fine. Its really strange.

Yes ! Since we last spoke this error constantly appears. Once in about every 5 start ups now.
' DISK BOOT ERROR, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER'

That happens when i turn on the pc box. Seems to load and bam, hit with that.

Since we last spoke i havent been playing COD much, hence no BSOD. I played COD today and had 2 BSOD.

    1) STOP:0x00000050 (0xEDF178C4, 0x00000000, 0xBD4BA074, 0x00000002)
    Nv4_disp.dll - address BD4BA074 at BD012000, datestamp 00000000

    2) STOP:0x00000050 (0xED531850, 0x00000000, 0xBD4B9CC0, 0x00000002)
    Nv4_disp.dll - address BD4B9CC0 base at BD012000, datestamp 00000000

Both happened when playing COD. I can play other games fine, its just COD that BSOD's.

    Grrrrrrrr

I did this. Took each stick out and tested each individually. Both tested fine. The only problem was when i'd run 2 copies of memtest simeoutaniously. Thats when the errors happen to appear.

You really need to check the health of your hard drive while you can still access the data. The disk manufacturers usually have testing programs and procedures available on their websites.
