    The main article:

    S H O C K I N G ! ! ! :eek

. . . and since Yahoo is apparently powered by Bing now (which is VERY frightening in itself IMO), there's a follow-up here:

(scroll down to the "EDIT" for the screenshots)

Ya know, I've hated Bing since its inception... I never found what I was looking for, and the fact that they called it a "decision engine" was disturbing, freaky, wrong, and reeked of Big Brother, to me anyway. I don't need a "decision engine", I can make my own decisions. I need different links that relate to what I typed in the search box. If society has crumbled to the point where a "decision engine" is even considered an option (let alone a necessity), we have some bing problems!!! (yeah - pun is intended)

(the super bowl ended about an hour ago - I've had a drink or 10 :drink Steelers lost 25-31 and I'm a bit PO'ed)

I wouldnt read too much into this as that week the story came out, there was a Conference going on in the area of search engines, in the Farsight Summit... coincidence? also it wss a week earlier I think that data was out to Bing making inroads into Googles market share.

Search is big business and these corporate wrangles are going to become more common place, IP is the golden buzzword in tech these days.

Did you read the other side of the story?
    http://www.bing.com/community/site_...1/thoughts-on-search-quality.aspx?PageIndex=2

Im still open to if it was cheating as if a word and it could be a junk work as listed, to give a specific result, in specific results due to number of times searched and page rank, also coulx to play devils advocate be a dreamed up rouse to discreadit another company. Plus the information any search engine is actually not theirs anyway as in a far reaching comment of mine, they have already stole it from the site that it was originallyposted on.

Ive found Bing better than Google now and find increasingly i have to use search strings to get a better reply, although both are as bad as each other, but thaf may chance as google is adding some new options of late. I prefer the likes of Yippy (nee Clusty) a cluster search engine.

But then search engines are like browsers and Windows versions, it is like a pair of comfortable underpants that are tried and tested but becoming threadbar and you just cannot throw them away for a new pair to try on.

As I mentioned I think there is more to this than a few soundbites ob forums and blogs than meets the eye.

Well I aint no computer wiz but I hope I am right when saying Google searches can be a pain in the butt.. Because when searching its really whats close to you. Like say you want to search something out of the USA it would be hard to find something. Also I find this interesting and just wanted to follow up on what others say. Makes me think of the whole software issue where That company used MB data and was busted.

I should never type a long post like that above on a mobile phone, typocity, but then it will be spidered at some point, although feel sorry for the person who types "coulx" thinking they where going to get results for something different as in the town in France and get my post ;)

But I agree with you Silas, over the years searching for items via google has become a pain, especially as you may wish to search for a specific file name as you have had an issue/crash with said file, only to search on the file name to end up having to waid through pages of HJT logs, because everyone knows HJT is good for finding why and app or file crashes.

Yes can use specific search terms and the advanced search options, but thats adding time to your searching. Hence why I'm a fan of clustering search engines, narrow things down a bit easier, bu weeding out the topic groupings you dont need.

back to Google vs Bing, well that ones going to be a he said she said thing for many years as the search engine wars are hotting up again. We will likely see a few more stories of wrong doing, spying and cheating etc before the year is out.

another good take on this from an Apple user HERE

I'm just glad someone is standing up to Google its too big and powerful,Google is expanding into other markets other than search engines which is the most dangerous thing it can do,it has practically limitless power to unfairly push and promote any product it wishes to create.

So yeah Google needs some serious competition and ATM it seems Microsoft is up for the job, competition even nasty competition often ends up being good for us.

I missed this link the first time round,he makes some great points about the hypocrisy of Google.

I saw the documentary 'Download: The True Story of the Internet' a completely unbiased documentary that just narrates history and Google flat out copied Overture's design. If you watch the documentary its quit amazing how much copying from each other goes on.In the early days of search engines everyone copied off everyone.

Found it,not sure if this is the right part, the whole series is on youtube anyway

Yes Rikky majority of tech is copied from each other, the browser is the best lot to look into as Opera was one of the earlier ones and Mozilla copied alot the look and feel of Opera, then IE copied ideas from both of them.

Indeed some good points raised in that writers article on the things many dont know about Google and they are not all sweetness and light, but these are the things that many miss out as they will follow the flock and complain about the target of the month without reading the flip side of the story. Its always "great" to be in the flock and jump on the bandwagon!

Hmm, Am I a freak too since I'm using "startpage search engine" mostly and not google, yahoo, bing, clusty etc? :-D Startpage is my homepage on all browsers.

I really never liked google a lot due to my lack of advanced search knowledge I guess and millions of pages showing up, most of them garbage.
