No, your motherboard doesn't have onboard video so you will need to install the GPU to connect the monitor. Motherboards with onboard video will have either a VGA, DVI, or HDMI port.

how do you install the GPU without having a monitor to look at and naviagte to install it?

Plug it into the motherboard and hook up the monitor to it. While it won't necessarily display as best as it can, it will still display.

ok yeah nothing is coming up.

    Alright, GPU troubleshooting steps:

    A) Ensure everything is connected properly (BOTH PCI-E power plugs are fully inserted into the card, the card is correctly inserted into PCI-E slot 1 -- not slot 2, though it shouldn't matter sometimes it does, and the monitor cable is connected to the card securely. Also ensure that the monitor is properly powered. Recheck all of this before continuing troubleshooting procedures.

If that checks out, then B) REMOVE the card from the motherboard, and reseat it. Reconnect everything once again.

If that doesn't help, then either your card is faulty, or you have motherboard issues (motherboard is DOA, RAM isn't installed correctly or isn't seated well enough, CPU isn't properly installed, etc.).

the motherboard has a check sequence it goes through that it test the RAM, CPU, GPU, and Power switch. All of them check out good and no errors are read. Do you think I have to use the hook up on the GPU that isn't an HDMI or is an HDMI fine? also should I put the GPU installation disk in, the windows disk, or should a screen pop up without any discs?

Let me get this straight... do you see ANYTHING on the monitor at all?

    HDMI is fine.

GPU installation disk will be used within Windows, installing Windows is the first step, period.

no nothing on my monitor. I have it plugged into my tv via hdmi and nothing shows up. same hdmi cable i used for my ps3 a couple mins ago.

You have ensured the TV input is set to the HDMI I'm assuming.

If the troubleshooting steps above have not worked, ensure your RAM is properly installed (correct slots, reseat them, etc.). When I built my computer, I had the RAM in the wrong slots and nothing showed up until I moved them into the correct slots.

yepp hdmi is right. i'll reset everything. but the ram is right according to the manual.

I got a screen! you don't know how happy i am spending so much on my first build and finally it works! haha. I switched the ram into the black slots even though the manual recommends the blue ones. maybe they just needed to be reset because i didn't try the blue twice. Thanks!

No problem. You may want to try switching them back to the blue slots, as it's likely one or both of them was simply not seated perfectly. I'm glad it's working now!

thanks me too and I was thinking I would do that with the ram.

    Glad you got it working!

My RAM doesn't go in the slots recommended by the manual either.

got it up and running and installed a bunch of stuff. Here is a problem that has occurred though. I was listening to music while downloading and installing programs and then my music just stopped making noise. it was still playing and the mixer showed sound was being produced but nothing was coming out of the tv speakers. Then i got a message saying "An audio device was disconnected or reconfigured. Verify that the audio device is connected, and then try to play the item again." Would this be the GPU already failing? I'm on the desktop typing this!! haha

ok so my PSU is really sensitive so I'm either going to replace it or get a different one. I would like to get a modular one that's why I want to replace it. Here is an antec one but it is a little spendy adn here is a RaidMax one. I just don't know if the brand is reputable but both of them have the same 4 of 5 eggs. If you have any other in mind let me know. I would prefer Modular and if there is an led it should be blue but their doesn't need to be one.

Also my blur ray is on it's way and I'm exchanging the monitor because the webcam doesn't work on it

Do you have to have a disk drive in a desktop? I took mine out of my old one to get this one up and running temporarily and when I turn on the old one the mouse and keyboard doesn't work unless I messed something up?

Yeah I'd go for that Antec PSU if I were you... don't know much about RaidMax, I've only heard that Antec and Corsair are the best PSUs to get for the most part.

What do you mean by disk drive? An optical drive? No, it's not a requirement.

yeah an optical drive. as soon as i took it out the mouse and keyboard won't work but it still loads and says to type in the password and stuff.

I haven't heard of that happening before... not sure, maybe you accidentally unplugged the USB cable from the motherboard when you disconnected the optical drive.

I will look into that thanks!

This thing is amazing so far. Thanks to everyone who helped. I am going to take pics and maybe make a youtube vid when my blu ray burner gets here. I went from 512mb of ram to 16gb, from a dual core 1 or 2 point something GHz processor to a six core 3.2 GHz, 60gb to 1.5tb HDD, tube monitor to HD flatscreen, xp to windows 7, cd/dvd to blu ray optical, and crap graphics to the GTX. Quite a bit of a shock but in a very good way haha. To be honest this one is a lot quieter then my last one. I know how people say it's not always silent but all i hear is the quiet fans and the HDD occasionally. The last one you could always here the HDD, the fans and their bearings were probably getting shot and it made this really weird loud buzzing noise the past few days before i got this one ha. Oh yeah I'm also able to install and run a lot of programs I couldn't on the other haha.

    16GB RAM?

You making the next avatar movie? :D

Looking good, make sure you get some pics up!

haha yeah well I picked up some real cheap used 8gb ram and so I just threw it in until I have a different use for it. now that I built this I might be building my dad one so I could use it in his. We will see how long the exchange takes newegg to get me my blu ray burner. 2 days already keep count haha :p Then the pics/vid will come up.

Well I promised pics and a vid. The pics are on this post but youtube is stupid with the linking a google thing so i don't feel like uploading the video. At least not yet. ha
    Pic 1
    Pic 2
    Pic 3
    Vid

I figured out how to do a vid on tiny pic. And when i say a modular "case" i meant PSU haha wasn't thinking:-o

idk if the vids audio is working
