i recently bought a linksys e2000. it's main purpose is to connect two desktops to our dsl connection via ethernet cables. that worked fine no problems. then i decide to use the wireless option to connect a roku box to play netflix. the roku will play everything but netflix. it stops and reloads every five minutes. their IT people said that my signal was fluctuating alot and that i should reboot my router. actually i had re booted everything but had no luck. also, when using the roku box and my desktop at the same time it really slows my desktop down, alot. i hope this makes sense to somebody and you can point me in the right direction to solve this problem. tia :confused

Buffering netflix could be two things, just a general slow internet speed overall, and a dropping of the wireless speed. Testmy.net has a fairly good speed test to start with. Id try that and post what speed, then we can try to figure out the wireless issue.

my down load speed is averaging 2.6/2.7mbs. the max for my dsl connection in my area is 3.0. up load speed was 0.6 average.

That's not bad, I'm running about the same thing, DSL 3.0, roku, networked blu-ray, a few computers. I do notice when someone is streaming netflix but usually we run fairly well. Netflix likes to pause about 40 minutes into the show to buffer, but it doesn't take long to start again.

    Lots of questions for you.
How far away is the wireless? How good is the signal strength? What model Roku is it, the newest HD one?

Because you are using wireless N --
What is the wireless card on the computer? Anything else that could be connecting at the same time -- Wii, xbox, DS, kindle, nook, smartphone, ipod, anything at all? Is there ever a time of day when it is better?

Have you checked for firmware upgrades on the router? On the Roku? I think Roku might do them automatically and not let you watch until it's done.

What kind of distance is there between the Roku and the router? The e2000 has internal antennas so the range is somewhat limited. The farther apart they are, the slower and more unstable the connection becomes.

Does the Roku have a wireless "N" or "G" device built in? "G" is only 54mbps max compared to 100mbps on a wired connection.

Sorry Handygal, I didn't see those questions in your post. I guess I need to take a remedial reading class or something.

No, it's perfect, I'm not the only one thinking this. I have the smaller Roku and I'm pretty sure that it isn't N but I'll double check it.

I'm thinking that if the Roku is the newest and running at a HD resolution that is too demanding for the connection, there might be a way to change the setting to a lesser version of HD.

hello, and thanks for the replies. i will get straight to answering your questions
distance from router to roku= 20 ft.
    signal strength= four dots= good
    actual model number=2050x mid version
wireless card on my pc= integrated with mother board (asus) i will have to check to give you the specifics
up-dates= router has latest up-dates and firm ware, roku box ?, i assume it does.
other devices connecting at the same time= not wirelessly
all the other options that roku offers ( hulu, amazon, news ) seem to do just fine, it's netflix that seems to drop out continually. i have been reading the forums on the roku sight and others seem to have similar problems and they believe that it's band width or server problems on the netflix end. i don't know , its all greek to me. what i thought i might try is to buy or make a thirty foot ethernet cable and just connect the roku and the router that way.
