One of our salesmen kinda invited me on a trip to Europe in a few years. There will be some details to work out, but this is very doable. Heck, they are going in 2015, so PLENTY of time to save up $. I have never been outside of the US, well, I have been to California... :-D:-D But, I have always wanted to go to Europe, see some of the historical stuff.

I would be tagging along with some war re-enactors. They travel around, dress in period uniforms, and re-enact battles. And they do it with a TON of historical details, even hand sewn uniforms. Germany, France, and Belgium... I am so in on this deal. Plus, traveling with people who have been there before, will have built in tour guides.

I have not committed, but I think I would be crazy to pass up the opportunity. And, I hear that in Belgium, Chimay sets up a period specific pub for the event. :drool

I think I am going to do it. Watch out Europe... ;)

I envy you I spend a lot of time watching battle documentaries I'd love to play around with those old weapons. There isn't much to see in Europe though, there's a big clock,a big church,a big steel shaft and that's about it.

Thats about right Rikky and add some ruined buildings of old brick we charge unsuspecting tourists a fortune to view! ;)

In reality some great sights and history to see in the UK and Europe, we just take history in part for granted, although we shouldnt really, as history and many euro counties have shaped the world we live in now, for better or worse!

Yeah thats one hell of a bit of French architecture, I would like to for some weird reason see Notre Dame.. "the bells"

Have seen alot of Greek history as I love Greece as my family is part Greek anyhow... so the likes of the Palace at Knonssos intreagues me alot (the Minoans did develop a hell of alot of what would be called new technology these days) as does Egyptian history.

I am not sure what battle they are going to re-enact. The guy I know does pretty much everything from the 1700's to current, with the exception of the US Civil War. These people spend some serious time on 'threads' and equipment. They often sew their own uniforms, make flags, really neat stuff. I should find out for sure next Thursday if the invasion, oops, I mean vacation, is on or not.

If I do get to go, if any of you are in the area we will be traveling in, would be nice to meet, maybe have a drink in your favorite pub.

Sounds when reading your posts (in many details) it feels like going back a few centuries. Are you sailing to Europe? :-D Have you anointed yourself to be another Columbus discovering Europe? ;) Invasion of Canada cancelled or put on hold.

As an American you may want to visit the many American cemeteries (soldiers) in many countries. Imposing sites.

What are you going to sew meanwhile in the time left for the sail..... ?

EDIT: Once in Belgium, don't forget BELGIAN BEER (trappist) and visit BillMc in Brugge eh?

Sailing Delta (or whatever airline is best.) I ain't sewing a dang thing. :-D The invasion was a joke, they are off to re-enact some ancient battle. I plan on tagging along for the group discount, and since most of them have been there, built in tour guides. And If I do go, BillMc will certainly get a PM, would love to meet the Bionic one.

If I have to buy a military uniform from the past, participate in a re-enactment, not a problem. I look at it this way. They have connections in every country we will go to. I will not have to drive. I have 4 years to save up the $. Laissez les bons temps rouler :-D

Cool, Fred - good for you! At some point in the near future I'm gonna have to take my wife to the UK or Hawaii (I want to go to the UK - nothing I want to see in Hawaii; plus we have a friend who lives near Camby we could stay with and save $) for our 10th anniversary . . . I promised ten years ago, even though I hated to travel (seemed like a good idea at the time. I was thinking 10 years? That's way in the future. Heck, I could be dead by then :-D). But now, I'm kinda looking forward to it. Have fun and be safe!!!

LOL Rikky - that's almost exactly what our friend said one of her friends felt constituted an invasion! Oh, give up on teaching us proper english . . . it's like Patton said; "England and America are two countries separated by a common language" :-D
