what kind of stereo to get?

Im clueless about sound sytems
I can barely spell the word steroe, stereo
I want a stereo that can wake me up with some rockin bass and I share a wall with my bathroom,, so I want to feel the bass in the shower as well
I made this thread to help me get the stereo as an alarm clock alarm stereo
but I went to *sigh* best buy(Im desperate) and they told me I need a source, a tranciverver,l speakers and a sub woofer?

what do I really need?

I wouldn't know where to start with regard to alarm clock stereo's:confused Or where the best place to get one from in the US.

But if you want decent Bass you need the biggest diameter speaker you can buy as Bass is all about shifter large volumes of air,8inches is what I would consider reasonable for inside a house,its what I have and I never turn the bass up past a quarter through fear of upsetting the neighbours.

You'll want at least 200watts PMPO or 15 watts RMS,the wattage for stereo's though is greatly exaggerated and there is no standard,neither of these numbers really mean anything as they can be fiddled to look huge so also note of total power draw the device is rated at.

If it says it can put out 200 watts but has a max current draw of 50 watts then it probably only has an output 30 or 40 watts.

One of the biggest factors is the quality of the stereo you buy as they can handle the higher output without audio distortion and the only way to tell is to read reviews or what I do is go to a store and test them,crank them up!

With regard to bestbuy:It depends what you want to build and how much you want to spend,you sound like your talking about a basic but powerful stereo,LOTS of stereo's have an alarm function built in so just ask a salesperson which have an alarm feature then find one your like the sound of.

I live plenty far now and I dont see how I could ever disturb them...

 

If I were you I would go to Amazon.com and pick the components you want within the price range you want to pay.

 

I dont know the components I need to make a stereo work. I have access to consumer reports, but I just dont know what I need

Are you talking about adding stereo components to a computer, or a discrete audio entertainment system?

I'm sure it could, using the line in/out connectors on both your sound card and the audio receiver.
