    Hi,
I would like to know if I can run PhotoDeluxe 1.0 on my new computer with Windows 7 Home. The program was made for Windows 98 ( I know it's old ) but I really like it and there's no free ones that can compare. I have tried just about all of the photo editing programs and they cannot compare with Photo Deluxe. I use my old computer to test them out and take my word, there's a lot of crap out there. If I load PhotoDeluxe 1.0 on my Windows 7 will it hurt my system or maybe just not run.

    Marlene,
    Hugssssss,

It won't hurt your system. Worst case scenario it will simply refuse to install or run.

Before installing the program, right-click on the installer and select "properties". On the Compatibility tab, select the OS the program was made for in the drop-down menu, Win98 in your case, and check the box below that says "run as administrator", and click okay and apply. Then install the program.

After installation, right-click on the program's main exe file, and repeat the steps above before you run it the first time.

That will make things a lot easier for you, though it's unfortunately not guaranteed to work.

    Hello,
From what I have read, you cannot even load this program on XP. If you cannot get it to run using Mimsy's suggestion, there are freeware programs for photo editing that are quite powerful. You may be surprised at what is available.

Did you have this program running on XP? If so you can run it in Windows XP Mode.

No need as XP has compatibility back to Win 95. Straight from Microsoft.

    Hi,
Thank you everyone for your help, but Windows 7 will not let it even begin to run ( I thought so but I gave it a shot ). What I liked about Photo Deluxe 1.0 it is powerful and with just a few clicks you were done. Not like the new editing apps, click this, open this, drag this and so on and so on. And I have tried them all, they load them with so much crap now a days. I still can use the program but on my old computer with XP.

    Thanks again,
    Marlene,
    hugssssssssss,

    Hi Marlene

If the program installed ok then just try this one thing as some apps need in Win7 to be run as Admin, so right click the shortcut and choose Run as Administrator, and if that works, then rigth click the shortcut and choose properties, then tick the Run as Administrator box.

May need to do this in conjunction with running in XP compatability mode.

    Hi Marlene

Thats a pity it won't run as it was a nice app, but I would look in to GIMP and maybe depending on what photo editing you need to do Windows Live Photo Gallery

They just may do what you need,
