I started to realize that when I play online games, my screen will have these weird color lines on my screen. I was wondering why this happened because it never did until today. I reinstalled my video card drivers. It didn't work. I took out the video card and put it back in, and that didn't help also. I'm wondering if it is the monitor or video card. I have an ATI Radeon 4670 1gb DDR3. Also, whenever I play a game, my graphics card will reset itself. To be more firm, since I have an ATI card, it has a VPU recover option that automatically resets my graphics whenever my graphics have a problem. Please if anyone knows what my problem is, please help. :cry

I have some screenshots of these "color lines."

This may be a power prob, what is your PSU and how old is it and most significantly what is the Max Ampage on the 12 volt rails ??? If the card requires a certain ampage and the power unit is not functioning properly the resulting screens you posted can look like that. I'm no expert in this field but one of the Gamers on here may inform you better.

So it's only when you're playing "online" games? Are these games you're playing thru a web browser or games on your computer you are playing against others online (like Call of Duty, WoW, etc)? If they are games on your computer do they have the same issue when you play them off line?
You didn't say what resolution you play them at, try dropping down to the next lower setting and see if that makes any difference. Also try downloading the latest drivers for your card.

@toke My PSU came with my tower and its a 400W psu. But knowing that its a cheap PSU could be the problem. The max ampage on it is 16.

@Scarrjr Actually it happens whenever I'm on the computer via surfing the internet or playing games. The resolution I play at is 1152x864. And yes it still happens when I change to a lower resolution. I have downloaded the latest drivers so I'm going to install them to see if it has any fix to this.

@toke Yea, I cleaned the card's fan immediately.

So I found the solution. First, I decided to take out my video card and switch it to my internal video card. My onboard graphics is an ATI Radeon 4200. Now that I switched it, I don't see any more lines. I conclude that it was the card's fault. Am I still able to exchange my video card for a new one since it has a 2 year warranty or so. If so, how do i return it for a new one?

As long as you registered the card with the manufacturer when you got it you should be OK. You will have to contact the customer support for the company that made your card. Try their web site first to see if they have an RMA process you can start online, if not get the contact numbers to call.

As a last ditch attempt before you order a new one , have you tried the card in another computer, I say that as I have 2 rigs with Identical motherboards and my card will be identified in one but not the other, worth a try to confirm if the card is malfuntioning.

    Just wanted to update.

I bought the same graphics card because I loved it so much. :p
I just finished installing it today and it works! :D

So basically the old card was malfunctioning but oh well stuff happens! :cool

Oh um sadly I only have one working desktop. I was going to try it at a friends house but it would be a pain. So I just went and ordered another.
