Hi folks. I've been following advice from this site for years, but this is my first forum post. Please be kind.

I have a 32 bit laptop with 2 GB of memory. It has two hard drives of about 50 GB each and is pretty full (which might be the problem). It has begun to run really slowly over the last few months. Booting up takes quite a while and getting IE8 to load takes ages. Videos drag (although the audio keeps going). The scariest this is that occasionally when I close a tab in IE, a new window opens to the same page I just closed. Before I can close that one, another pops up, then another, then another. Sometimes it's just a couple and other times it's a dozen or more before I can stop it. I've been running Macafee, Spybot and Ad-Aware, and can find no viruses or malware with these. I followed the Read & Run Malware Removal Guide, but had trouble with Root Repeal despite reloading and running it eight times. It just kept showing things as "Locked to the Windows API!" then stopped working after a few minutes without letting me save the report.

Anyway, I am attaching the reports as directed. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Attached is a screen shot of RootRepeal running. It gets to C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\ every time then goes no further. An error message occasionally pops up, but it is actually clear, just an error box showing whatever is behind it. Pretty, but not very helpful. I don't know if this screen shot helps, but I finally gave up. Again, any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Yes that is what it looks like. Your logs are clean. You should cleanup your hard disks and keep at least 8 GB of space free to keep Windows running more efficiently. The 4 GB you have available on drive C is not helping you. Uninstall everything you don't use and also delete all unnecessary files you are saving or move them to a CD/DVD if you need to keep backups.

Wow! Incredibly fast response!!! Thanks a bunch. I'm sure there's some stuff I can move or delete from the C: drive. Hopefully that will speed it up. (Dang! There goes my excuse to buy a new laptop.)

    Thanks, again.

    You're welcome.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps which will also free up a small amount of space ;):
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
