What is truly amazing is 20% of that is contributed by just two members.

Indeed and I know many are still folding in their small way me and hrlow2 are slowly climbing up the ranks!

Pity that many are not folding now as MGs team is slipping down the team ranks, so need some more of the GPU folders that are members here to jump ship or fold for MG or concider folding if you have not to help a worthy cause.

The technological changes in the folding arena have put the massive single CPU farms that were the standard point getters early on, in the dust bin from a points perspective. However, those farms did a massive amount of computations to create the base for Stanford to build on and learn from.
The recent changes in technology, re the GPU client introduction and multi core CPUs, have helped the science but have skewed the point basis in a way. Those with the resources to obtain the most recent technology can literally generate hundreds of thousands of points monthly where before it would take years. In that respect, it belittles the early contributors but the advances available with the newer technology have so much potential to speed up the research and possibly advance cures that I think it is worth it.
My hat does go off to the early folders though. As in any endeavor, the earliest pioneers have it the hardest and we can follow in their footsteps gratefully.

I agree ibmest. I remember running almost 20 Athlon borgs back in the day, got around 3K PPD. Now, a decent video card will get you 6-8K PPD. I have dropped out of caring about points that much (except I am looking forward to 10 million points on one team soon! :-D) What I look forward to are some medical advances. They have has a lot of data cranked out over the years, and even more now days. Hopefully we will start seeing a real world advances from this venture.

I think the points are a little off, but when you take into account how much computers have advanced in the last 10 years... Back in '91, what, 500mhz, or 1.something single core CPU? 256Meg RAM, 512 or 1Gig for the really hard core ones with thick wallets.

The first computer I folded on was a 333mghz AMD, overclocked to a mighty 350mghz or so. :-D

Hopefully, in another 10 years, there will be a lot of benefits in the medical field from the Folding effort.

And after all that, I will just say congrats to the MG Folding team. :major

I do too and its something we have been discussing in work in can folding help our work too, we have access to potentially 5000 PCs plus 2 supercomputers in the university.

Boy oh boy if you get all those folding MGs would top the points in double quick time.

Inded Bill, if I could pursuade work to run F@H it would be great, dont think they will sadly (they are anal about everything and love XP to death which is a downfall in tech circles, never love an OS as it will bite you in the ***), maybe the Uni side could but only if we have our own machines.

All the hospitals here in Belgium still run XP also most government agencies.

I suppose the cost of changing X thousand systems is a giant nightmare.

The nightmare is turning loose of the $$$ for the OS.

I think that attitude is biting us in the assss now..... while i dont need core medical systems it would be a good thing to start my PC and apps to latest Windows to test non core systems then it would leave the path open to core system tests!

Personally I feel that many of our downtime is due to XP being not compatible with new apps, we need to embrace technology,

Personal circumstances permitting, I should be folding here April 1st if you'll allow a new alpha dog into your pack.:p:-D

I'll be in the hospital for the next two weeks, hopefully not longer, as my legs have inflamed to twice or more in size and weight and I'm basically bed-ridden ATM and hope it's only Type 2 diabetes. Anyways, hope to be folding for MGs ASAP! Wish me luck and I'll see ya'll on the other side of my latest life's melodrama.:cheers <= non- alcoholic single malt.: :cry:roflmao

Hey Augie i hope all goes well in the hospital and you are back to a fighting weight soon, i had noticed you were a bit quiet for the last couple of weeks.

    Get well soon my friend.

As to the folding i think any team would be glad to have you with them.

Thanks Bill, I just wish I had of extended you the common courtesy of advising you first of my decision as you're my only 'team' member left.:) I'm tired of posting into a vacuum and saw the perfect opportunity when Halo posted to announce and hopefully this will get someone at least as to why is this idiot throwing $3K @ hardware just to fold a lot! Man, I want to get that Sandy Bridge machine going.:cry
I've been waiting to say this for many years here: SIR, YES SIR!:major

I pulled my one rig folding for MG's the other day. Working on points for my main folding team. I did get 1.5 million points for MG...

Good luck to the MG Folding team, and congrats again. :cool

Not to worry Augie, (just get yourself better) for such a small team we did good having managed to get into the top 250.

As you have seen my folding came to an abrupt stop ( i sold the rigs)except for my wife's laptop but i am in the process of building a new PC and will have it folding as soon as possible.

Wow, more new hardware!:celebrate Since you don't game, I'd change my strategy, forget GPU folding and get the best Sandy Bridge that you can afford and a great overclocking motherboard along with a closed waterloop like the Corsair H-70. Add an SSD or two and you now have a whisper quiet machine that can run 24/7 which the missus won't hear.;)

With these new unlocked chips, tho mobo makers have made some nice apps for new O.C.'rs. Remember, the magic number for SMP2 BONUS FOLDING PPD and Intel CPU'S = 3.8GHz.:major

Crap augie, hope the hospital stay is as short as possible. Get yourself better real quick guy.

Yeesh, here comes a folder to set some PPD records for MGs.:major

    Hey Augie

First off I wish you a speedy recovery and know how T2 Diabetes or any form of Diabetes can affect those that have it in a number of ways that many folk wouldnt think of, but I know you will know what things I'm talking about.

Plus great stuff in your folding for MGs again, welcome back to the team :)

I can recomemed the OCZ Vertex 2's for SSDs.

Congratulations to everyone! Perhaps one day our contribution now will help us, or our children, live a healthier life. Welcome back to LBMEST, glad to have your awesome system back online. Augie, don't harass the nurses too much, ;) and wishing you a speedy and comfortable recovery.

Remember everybody, like Susie Orman says "Folding First, Computers Second, then paying the power bill is third." ;) :-D
