PC is shutting down as if there has been a power cut

My PC is powering off at all sort of times (sometimes when I have just switched it on, sometimes hours after I have been using it).
I have downloaded speedfan to check temperatures and the CPU temp is rarely above 42C.
At the beginning I thought it was blowing the fuse but after a while I discovered I only needed to change socket in the multi socket extension I am using and the PC would power up without any problem. It does not matter which socket it was plugged into.

Does anybody understand what my problem is?

The first thing that pops in my head is an issue with the power supply. Not sure the rating of your power supply or if you have access to another one to put in that rig to troubleshoot but that certainly seems to be the first place I would look.

I don't have a another one but I was thinking of buying a quieter one than what i have at the moment because the present one is making a hell of a noise. So this is the final push i needed.

 

Well if your Power Supply is making a H311 of a noise, than that validates my replacing the Power Supply as the first route to take. You can find them for really great prices. Shop around and good luck.

Let's hope the OP doesn't rush out and get a "bargain" and end up with low Amperage ratings on the 12V rail !!rolleyes
