    Hello,

Seems I "HAVE TO" ("MUST") keep some of this "stuff" around, to be able to view certain videos on the www, but it occurs to me that I may have more downloaded (taking-up space) on my machine than is necessary (?).

I'm hoping someone here can help me simplify this whole deal, a bit.

I have installed (again, only because I seemed to be prompted to do so, to be able to view the vid I wished to view):
    Quicktime "Alternative" 3.2.2 (alternative?!?) -- 101~MB

    QuickTime 7.69.80.9 -- 72.4~MB

    Apple Application Support 1.4.1 -- 52.8~MB

PS ~ and is this so-named "alternative" what I "thought" that it started-out being, which was more of a "slim", or "lite", basic/stripped-down version, please?

    Thanks in advance,
    g...

Link to what you wanted to view?
I have none of those things, that constantly need patching on my computer. I want to see if I can view it.

I want a link/address/url to a web site. I don't need to see a screenshot of your add/remove programs list.
By going to the site, and seeing messages on my computer, I might be able to determine if what you have installed is really needed.

*EDIT* - on second thought, I suppose you've more-or-less answered my question...so I'll simply get rid of this CRAP, and if it happens again, THEN I'll know to record the site, and get in here for assistance.

    Thanks.

Well, I'll certainly attempt to recall the site I visited, which requested all of this...probably, I don't know, at least a week ago...maybe two weeks now.

The only problem is, I've probably visited - who knows - 100 or more sites in that time...so I'm guessing it will be next to impossible to recall who/which site wanted these downloaded...but I'll be thinking.....................

Also, do not click install. That's a good way to get malware in to the computer.

I never install things from a site until I've researched to find out a) what the site is about and b) what is wants to install.

    Hi Glenn

In the main I would just stick these days with the official Apple Quicktime, it updates through iTunes also if you have that installed so is kept upto date.

So uninstall Quicktime and Quicktime Alternate and just install Quicktime from HERE only, as its not worth having two versions on your PC an Official version and Alternate.

If you do have iTunes which I'm sure you do from past questions Apple Application Support is part of that and required to run iTunes so do not uninstall.

As mentioned some websites need various media addons to run various video media, so do keep an eye on what ones are being asked to be installed and if you dont recognise it, note the website and the software addon they wanted to install and research it or ask us.

Thank you both...sorry I am just now seeing your replies, I just don't seem able to "stay-up" (keep-up?) with everything these days - including just SEEING (noticing) ALL of my messages - much less "Replying" ....

I just ran into another site that is asking for (rather, telling me that I do not have) the "Plug-in" that I need.

I will have to read through Davids answer here again and yes, plodr, I think I understand what you are saying as well - thank you BOTH from the bottom of my Heart...this *STUFF* is often difficult it seems these days, and tricky to boot.
