So, I am doing my weekly kitchen counter cleaning. Find my car insurance bill... Forgot to send it in, has to be paid by the 25'th, need 5 days for it to clear by check. :eek Now, in Louisiana, if you let your insurance lapse by even a day, you gonna stand in line at the DMV, and you will be paying some fines.

So, I was thinking of next day USPS on it, when I thought, heck, this is a well known insurance company, surely I can pay online. So, a quick search of their site, bamm. Bill payed. The interweb, it is how things are done these days. I love it. :-D

Afterwards, got sidetracked, and ordered a new magazine for my .45. Mine won't run on C-Prod mags, so back to Amscor.

The internet really is amazing. My dad recently switched to paying all his bills online, much more convenient than paying by check.

I think paying by check (cheque in Aussie spelling) is just about dead in OZ. I don't remember the last time I wrote a cheque. All my bills are paid by Debit/Credit VISA card, or automatic debit, or cash if local (for example at the weekly market).

I can't remember the last time I wrote a check. I think it's about a dead venue in my neck of the woods also . . . for that matter I don't even carry much cash around these days. Plastic rules!

There was a trick a girlfriend taught me about paying bills by check - if you are gonna be late sending a check, "forget" to sign it. They will of course send it back for a signature which buys you some time. :-D When my first wife and I split up and it was just me and the kids I used that ruse twice and it worked (at least on utility companies). Glad I met that gal then - I was in dire straights at that time.

That won't work with the LA DMV. Insurance would be canceled, and then, once you get it reinstated, you get to go to the DMV and pay more fines. No thanks... ;)

Its awesome aint it? Imagine all that nasty fresh air we'd have to breath going paying bills and such?

Custom fit chairs are expensive too,it's took years of hard work forming my chair around my butt like this, you just can't get that custom air seal breaking sound when you stand up from a new chair.

If everything just keeps getting easier and automatic ect. eventually I could get my chair forming time down easily into a couple of years.

    :-D

Hmm, I am getting a little tired of actually getting up to grab a beer, maybe I need one of those Hovaround thingies. With a gun rack on it. :-D And, an easy button on it also. :-D

    You mean a wife?:-D

Sorry girls too easy:-D Anyway I think a wife would get in the way of my chair forming duties, making me do DIY and stuff.

Oh, heck no! Rumor is you have to buy them presents on certain days of the year, and if you forget, you are in deep, well, stuff. Plus, one guy told me he had to actually listen to the wife.

Plus the rumors of all the shoes the 'wife' might collect. Heck, where would I keep my guns and ammo? :-D

I'm sorry, Fred. Did I hear you admit on a geek forum that your second thought for payment was online??? I may have to revoke your Major Geek status. LOL

LOL, I usually pay cash... But that particular place does not accept cash, so I must pay with check, or via the interweb. I will blame it on the fumes from the cleaning products I was using. ;)

It is amazing how only a few years ago it was joke that places don't accept cash, now its often true.

Walk into a new car dealer with a suitcase of cash and they'll probably laugh at you.

A new car dealer would LOVE you if you came in with cash. CC companies charge the merchants anywhere from 1% to 5% and more. Think about that hit to the profit on a $30K car... A check is a bit easier, but you get the idea. I have heard of car dealerships that won't take a CC...

After thinking, are there not limits on the amount of cash you can use on a transaction, or or am I imagining that. I think I am thinking of the amount of cash you can withdraw from a bank.

I've done this with my credit card bill once. I thought it was due in like 5 days but wasn't sure so I looked at the statement to double check and it was due... that DAY :eek

After a momentary panic, I regained my reasoning and checked their website to see if I could pay online and I could (and did!).... problem avoided! *phew*

Another thing that seems kinda backward to me is that over here if your order a repeat prescription from the the doctors you can't do it over the phone but by email is fine.

I'm like 'When did an email start carrying more weight than a one to one phonecall?'

Simple, it is dated, stored, and all automatically. A phone call might require, gasp, use of pen and paper. :-D

Yeah,I guess it also removes liability if the medication is mis-prescribed.

I use the computer all the time. When I was 16 or so I got my 1st computer. And nothing has change from that year to now 10 years later to where my mother can still not turn on a computer tower. Back when we had it. I tried showing her basics. And she would constantly leave and say enough. :-D

Check... and... Cash? Oh I've heard of those! From prehistoric times, like the 70s, before there was plastic and EFT!

Cash is alive and well. In some places, you even get a discount if you pay cash. ;)
