Sorry red death68, but I can't find anything that isn't a little bit skunky, if you know what I mean.

Maybe 1 of the members of MG has some disks they might be willing to part with.

    Greetings, red death68.

This might not be the complete OS, but the files listed will give you a taste of what was contained in the Win 95 era DOS:

    Hi

Nope sadly MSFT tend to hang onto copywrite, (3.11 and 6.0, 6.22) its still available to users of TechNet and MSDN, no idea why, maybe some geeky tech has a spare nanosecond to go old school.

    Online taster

as an outside thought try the opensource FreeDos could give you an insight into the Dos era.

If you'd like to be a power user of the command prompt environment and be able to write
amazingly powerful batch files, you should get a copy of 4DOS. :major

    What Is 4DOS?

    Some download links here:
    Wikipedia: 4DOS

Lots of info and resources here:
    4DOS.INFO

This should be compatible with FreeDos.

    http://www.4dos.info/v4dos.htm
The 'announcement' links are broken. :(

I have a few versions of dos on floppys. I'd think if I attached them here. MS wouldn't like it. Illegal perhaps. I've used boot disk many years ago and a good sight. Live in the chicagoland area? Think I also have an older 5 or 8 inch floppy drive with disks in my closet. Xp will reconize 32 bit, but won't reconize 16 bit.

You can get the files you need from here:
    ftp://jpsoft.com/4dos/files

I downloaded 4DOS.COM from that page to check.
It is version 7.50 and it did load properly within a COMMAND.COM window on Windows XP SP3.

    Take a look at readme.txt and intro.txt.

Put all of the files in the same directory, like C:\4DOS.

After starting you command window, go to that directory, (cd \4dos), and run 4dos.com.

Once you start 4dos.com, you can run Option.exe to change various environment settings without having to do it manually.

You will have to dig into this and do some reading if you really want to learn how to use it.
That being said, if you WANT to work with a DOS prompt environment, that's part of the fun of it.
    It aint no GUI. LOL

Remember, once upon a time, you had to PAY for this!

There are newer products available at JPSoftware, but of course they are not free.

    Cheers.
