I have a USB to gameport adapter. I don't have any ID on the adapter or any doc. XP can ID it :cry so I'm hoping to find a generic driver. Any ideas where I can find one.:confused

    Hi

If XP cannot install a generic driver your clutching at straws sadly for a driver and could be installing many to get the right one.

Does this device have any markings or codes on it at all, an FCC number is normally good?

if not and its not recognised in Windows but does list in Device Manager as a yellow ! mark then open up its properties then choose Details tab and then in the dropdown choose Hardware IDs and copy and paste into a Notepad file the contents, then attach as per HERE to your next post as the codes may highlight a maker, thus driver,

or use USBDview HERE to see if it recognised the device and who the maker is and post the makers name and model of device if listed.

The adapter has no marking what so ever. What I did was went into the control panel and into add new hardware ... I chose the option where the device was already connect. Win didn't find it so it ask me to pick the device from a list ... the closest I could find was "game port for CH Products Gamecard 3" now it shows up in the device manger with the highlighted marker ... I clicked on the detail tap and all I see is "device instant ID" in a pop down box with other listing ... and in the box below the pop down I see "ROOT/MEDIA/0000"
Under the general tap in the properties I see this message "Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)"

I'll try the program you put up the link to ... and I will let you know.:wave

    Hi

In the Device Manager Properties box under Details tab is one of the other listings Hardware Ids (in the top dropdown box as I just booted up an XP PC and hardware Ids is listed in XP Device manager Details tab)? as that option has the data needed to likely find a maker.

But sadly I dont hold up hope, as many of very generic out of China and needed the original CD drivers,

Whats your XP Service Pack also?

I don't understand what you mean about the drop down box ... are you asking about the other listings?

I tried the program, but I don't see any thing that is listed with the current date ... just stuff from last year and the year before ... I just hooked up the usb adapter yesterday, yet no listing.:cry
I have XP Pro service pack 3 32 bit.

The dropdown contains the details needed to find the maker and model # of the hardware.

When I look in the drop down and go to "hardware id" all I see is "*pnpb02f" that's it.:-o Oh and this is under the standard game port ... it is the only thing in the DM that has an ! and a message ... "Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)":confused
The question is why can't window determine the settings?

Is the game port on a discrete soundcard or part of the motherboard?

    :waveYes I do have a soundcard C-Media

yes the adapter is like that one only no switch, I did attach the game controller to the adapter before I plugged it into the USB port. Did all this while the computer was shut down.

I have a program called driver magician, but I don't know how to use it fully. I updated what it showed but it didn't solve the problem... I'm wondering now if it is a driver, because window does see it as well as the driver magician, but I have an ! in the device manager. Does determining the setting have to do with the driver?:confused

According to this site that I found the error code 34 is this ... " "The device requires manual configuration. Change the hardware setting by setting jumpers or running a vendor supplied tool, and then use the Resource tab in Device Manager to configure the device."

How the heck can I manually configure the adapter?:cry Any ideas:confused

I disconnected the USB adapter and hooked my yoke up to the gameport, but now windows doesn't see it and it did before ... what happen? Anyone? I used the new hardware program and window doesn't see it ... it ask me to show it ... I do ... set it up ... then I get the same dang message as above about the code 34:cry

I got the gameport back ... I uninstalled the sound card then let XP find it again ... after it did that It found the gameport too. When I looked into the device manager I saw two standard game ports ... one was working properly and the other was giving the code 34 ... so I uninstalled the one with the code 34 now the device manager is happy ... I'm going to stay away from the game port ... I need to find a way for the computer to see the adapter and the pedals ... I'm trying to get the computer to see the usb device ... so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.:wave
