    Hi

Guess everyone diets or not in their own way, plus likely much easier to loose weight in a club that you actually meet others over a virtual diet club, but maybe in their own time others may join you in your quest for thinness.

I think the best thing to do when wanting to get rid of some fat and mainly just keep yourself in better shape. You should do cardio, just walk/run out on the road/sidewalks or even a tredmill if you can afford one. Hopefully after time your body can do what it once did with running a field or some distance. And after that you can build muscles but that adds more weight then fat. Also you can just atleast eat smaller portions don't eat before going to bed (like myself). Maybe try eating those 100 cals snack packs at the groc store instead of eating "worst" snacks that we normally eat.

I don't need to do anything to lose weight. A year ago, I was 185 lbs. Now I go only 138 lbs. Lost 4 inches around the waist.
Haven't changed my diet or routine. Everything is the same.
Blood pressure is lower and some shortage of breath. lack of endurance.
To be honest, I am scared as well as puzzled about the cause. Dr. I spoke with cannot explain it.

Thats pretty weird and I really hope its just something weird and not something bad going on. Something weird with me is (not as bad as you) but I always was kind of bigger in school 5'9 200lbs then now my wrist and stuff are like a skinny kid wrist. I never could wrap my hand around them. Now I can with plenty of room. Just kinda weird.

I should mention that I do get up off my butt and try to stay active, I'm not that lazy, it's just that the amount of calories I am able to consumer is far more I can burn off at my activity level, in the shape I am in, I can't do extremely heavy workouts, in fact running hurts my legs, any kind of weight training will deal a lot of pain, right now, I basically try to walk a lot, because it's basicall what I can do right now without noticing bad side effects.

I need to do much more excercise . . . I spend way too much SOFA* time right now. I have lost about 10 lbs, but I should be losing more faster . . . at this rate I won't get to my target weight of 190lbs for a year.

There's nothing wrong going the slower way as there's less likelyhood of the dreaded rebound effect. Heck, I started going to gym and did weights, lost like 5lbs out of the 50 that I wanted to lose in three months, but also lost 3 in. on the waist. The scale is OK but not to obsess on. When you gotta tighten your belt and buy larger shirt sizes, you're well on your way. Anyways, it should be a max of 2lbs./wk. You put it on slowly so take it off slowly.

I am going for the "quick smoking time" and "toning my body". I need/have to quit smoking to save money as well. I find myself constantly looking for my cigs for the habit of having one. Also for some reason I find myself without smokes not as much "want to do" type. All I keep thinking each second is a cig.:( But also to add to weight loss/toning I need to lose 10-15 lbs, But I also got muscle so it adds weight:( But hopefully I can start working out and stop smoking. I got a few more cigs to go, may last me day or 2 or 3 hopefully then I got to stop! Also I tend to eat when no cigs and thats not good, plus I eat supper most the times with GF before bed.

Do yogic breaths for the cig craving, all for 4 secs, inhale/hold/exhale/hold and repeat twice as often as necessary, it distracts ones brains.. I found that visualizing a breath coming through me from the nose to the toes and back out did wonders for me and my relaxation. :)

Work your way up to it if you can't do the 4 sec rule.;) Best is doing it at home, lie down on the floor spread-eagled and keep repeating the breaths keeping your concentration on them. It seems useless at first but give it a few weeks, you'll feel like you're walking on clouds after 15 minutes. :cloud9:)

:-D Yes I need to find something that works for the habit of holding/puffing a cig. I chew up and cold turkey, since no money to buy the nic gum. Also while back I seen that fake cig that your suppose to puff on instead, I always wanted to try that but I am sure its a lot as well.

It isn't easy to stop smoking silas but if determined, you can do it. Keep in mind that one may have to be on the alert for life not to give in. According to what I read the severity of addiction is in the genes. Therefore, for some it's easier to quit than for others.

A few decades ago I stopped C/T and to keep my fingers busy I took up crochet. Made tons of doilies and even 3 table cloths. I HATE doilies and anything crochet. ;) It worked for me at that time for 9 months. One day I got very upset about something, got myself a ciggie and from that moment got hooked again. Self destruction/caving in is the name for it.

Do anything to keep your fingers and mind busy or relaxed. Go take a brisk walk when the urge strikes and see if that helps. If you associate coffee and a ciggie, stop drinking coffee and drink juice instead. Drink lots of water to detox.

I quit again C/T on May 23, 2009 after 50 years of smoking and walking did and is still doing the trick for me when the urge strikes. Do anything to distract your mind from the urge to have a "fix", whatever works for you.

Good luck when/if you want to quit smoking. :)

PS: Don't substitute the ciggies with anything else, especially patches and nicotine gum. One just keep on being addicted to the nicotine and therefore nothing changes, except for your lungs of course.

Ya, my friend is now addicted to both the gum and smoking! Poor guy. If it wasn't so sad I'd be laughing.

Believe to have read that doing so is even worse for your health. By chewing that gum and smoking the nicotine receptors in your brain may increase and therefore wanting to smoke and chew gum even more. Never twiddle with any receptors in the brain, that counts for the nicotine receptors as well. I feel sorry for your friend.

Thats pretty weird to be addicted to gum and smoking both. Ive seen and tried few times when friends bought the patches or gum. Ive smoked cigs and had patch on at same time and it just made ya dizzy some what. Also Ive tried chewing the gum then smoke but nothing was notice while tring it. More people I use to know said patches work more then gum they offer. Because they go down in amount on them.

It can be dangerous - the person can get an overload of nicotine, which can reach levels high enough to paralyze the muscles that control breathing or cause a heart attack. I used the gum when I quit, but I managed to not pick the cigs back up while on the gum.

It helped me to use a placebo for the first few weeks - I took a pen about the same diameter of a cigarette and cut it to the same length as a cig. It gave me something to do with my hands (which is 50% of the addiction, some say) and if it got really bad I could pretend to smoke it while getting nicotine from a piece of gum in my cheek. It sounds stupid, but it really did help . . . and seemed to do the trick, for I tried to use the gum a few years before but ended up smoking again - only change was the placebo. The nicotine receptors in your brain don't care where the nicotine comes from - the trick (at least for me) was to overcome the physical (muscle memory, etc.) aspects of smoking along with the chemical issues. They actually are two different things.

I did stay on the gum longer then the product directions advised, but gradually weaned myself off it as well.

I'm not sure if I can post this question here or start a new thread but I figure that I'll ask my question here first.
I have extremely low self esteem for many different reasons, one of which is my weight. I'm about 40kg(I have NO idea what that is in pounds sorry) over weight but I'm having a lot of issues with losing it. I've cut down how much I eat and have started eating regularly again and I'm trying to get in more exercise.

My question is with my low self esteem and the fact that I've got no money, what kind of things around the house can I do to lose weight and inches off my belly?
I also have a medical condition that causes me to sweat a lot which makes me dehydrated all the time, to add to this I can't do any running because I was born with a small hole in my heart. This hole is too small to risk operating on but big enough to cause my legs to go weak if I run too much from all the blood that's being sucked though the hole and not circulating to my legs.
If anyone can help, I'd REALLY appreciate it. If this is in the wrong place please don't delete it just move it.

Ive got a friend with hole in his heart. And also thyroid problem. So its harder for him to do much. Anyways all I can suggest is try to he some healthier stuff and work out as much as you can. Even a little weight lifting/walking can help. Also you can maybe try weight lifting "poor man style" like I use to and just lift something heavy.

I am wheelchair bound most of the time ( i can get about but not much ) and of course my weight has ballooned, the only thing i have done is cut out alcohol and sugar which surprisingly helps but it is a slow process without some sort of work out.

There is an old saying that 'we are what we eat' and when i was working before the accident i could eat all the junk i wanted because i could burn it off but now it is just a matter of controlling your diet.

Also, you could get some ankle and wrist weights and wear them during the day.
2 1/2 lb. each for the wrists and 5 lb. each for the ankles.
Be surprised how much it can help on strengthening and toning after a while.
(And feels SO GOOD when you take them off the first few days.)

I do control my sugar intake and only drink occationaly.
I can't afford to be buying weights and I think they might cause too much of a sweating problem which causes too much dehydration and my doctor will be on my case even more then usual.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Sorry my problem is very complicated.

    Hi,
I would suggest swimming, even if you don't swim and just wade through the water at chest hieght is great exercise, I have lots of things going wrong with me at the moment and have to loose weight (diabetes/fybro/rh arthritis/chol/ high blood pressure and liver problems),I've took to doing light cardio work outs in the gym and swim once a week, at home I march on the spot, sit and stand from a chair, I also bought some elastic rubber exercise bands to do stetching with, great for muscle tone and wieght loss, I was 95.1kg 7 weeks ago and today I weigh in at 82.3 kg a total loss of 12.8 kg (29lbs). You have to have a dietry plan also to suit what conditions that you are ailing from, like mine is more fruit and veg and less carbs (bread/potatos), smaller portions, set yourself small goals each week to reach the main set goal and, it is essential that you treat yourself when ever you meet that goal that you set, like a look out to the cinema or or a favourite cream bun. Most important though is to never feel that you are not going to achieve your main goal, like i said set easy practicle goals of maybe say swap your toast on a morning for a piece of fruit, if you manage to do that for the whole week then pat yourself on the back by giving yourself a treat, this all helps to motivate you, try to get someone to do it with you for support and encouragement. MOTIVATION is the key to wieght loss,it may take time but you will benefit from it in the end!!!;)

Good suggestion. Check your area for Physical therapy places. In my area, we have one with a heated pool. I go 3 - 4 times a week. I am not trying to loose weight, that's never been an issue as I can either not eat or eat and it doesn't effect my weight. Quite often I only have dinner at night. But the pool has been a god send as I was approaching a wheelchair not to long ago. One of the best exercises to do it to push yourself away from the dinning room table. ;)

This is something I've taken up doing in my own life and I've seen SUCH a difference and not just in my weight.

After reading of the effects of High Fructose Corn Syrup can have, I did a one week test where I eliminated every product that contained HFCS and after the week was up I ate something that contained HFCS and I got incredibly sick, tired and lethargic . I, then, decided I would never consume anything that contains any HFCS again. It's been about a year or more and I've not only lost weight (and kept it off), I have more energy, and I'm not as tired as I used to be.

I can tell if I consume something that has HFCS in it (I try to be careful when I eat out but I can't always control the ingredients) I always get instantly sick and tired, I could fall asleep on the table :-D I've actually converted some of my friends and one of my friends had noticed when she consumes HFCS that it exacerbates her liver condition (HFCS can not be processed by the pancreas like normal sugars and must be metabolized by the liver).

It something I would suggest you test driving, even if you do it for just a week to see how it goes. At first, it was hard to find products that don't have it in there but as time is passing and people are starting to understand the dangers of HFCS, more companies are starting to remove it from their products.
